How can I get her head off?
« on: May 29, 2014, 05:13:03 AM »
I recently got this Brightglow and she's has really bad rust that I need to clean out. I think she has the potential to be super again!

Her head though appears to be stuck fast to her body. Any ideas on how to remove it? Has anyone got any experience will cleaning out this type of pony?

Thanks in advance :) Here are a couple of pics

Hi :)

The best thing to do is the run hot water over her neck seam and hope that the glue loosens. Failing that you could try using a knife but I'd advise caution since that can go horribly wrong and break the neck seam entirely. Best to sick to the hot water

She looks like she would clean up a treat ^^

As DemureGirl mentioned try hot water first, though I would suggest getting a microwave safe container and heating the water that way then dunk the pony in for a short while and then try to remove. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

I've had this problem before. The only thing that worked for me was using one point of a pair of scissors to (as carefully as possible) 'unstick' the head.  :)

i've had a lot of luck  both  getting  heads on and  off with using a hair drayer on low setting    at the seam until it gets  loose feeling then twist and tug right off.

I guess the first thing to ask would be, what have you tried so far?

As others have mentioned you really want the glue on neckline to loosen/melt. In addition to running her under hot water, you can also use a hair dryer concentrated on her neckline. And if you get it a bit loosened a bit of dental gloss dipped in acetone and then used almost as a garotte to saw through the neckline works to loosen the glue as well.

Good luck!

Use heating but then you can try to prise at the neck seam as well. I've never tried dental floss but I've used a blunt blade - the hooked tip of a metal nail file to work into the crease and that has helped. I'm guessing dental floss is safer and I'll definitely try it in future!

Its a good idea to use a nail file or a needle as well - you basically make a wide enough gap and drip some acetone down into the neck seam and that should help loosen the glue as well.

I've used the hair drier method for mostly G3s, been a hit or miss with G1s and I ruined 1 G1 with that method believe it or not :(
