Is it Worth it to Rehair or Alt-Rehair a Creamsicle?
« on: May 22, 2014, 09:26:17 PM »
The other day, I was looking in my bait shelf...
And a Creamsicle the Giraffe dropped out. Sadly, I got her on a lot of bait ponies because someone shaved part of her already short mane off. I always forget I have her, because I always push her all the way to the back because.....really...look at all those hair holes! Putting in the mane is the longest, most tedious part of rehairing ever. I just can't imagine having to do all of that giant mane she has.

But, the body is fine.
She could look really cute with maybe pink hair instead or orange-popsicle color?
What if it was long, like a normal pony's mane or even Cuteysaurus length?
She's not a high-value pony friend, so should she be restored to normal length white hair? (and then nobody would want her so.........a bad idea?)
Has anyone ever alt-re-haired a Creamsicle? (If they did I never saw it & I love that thread on here) Can I see it?

I don't know what to do with her because she's basically just sitting around doing nothing here and I feel bad.
Would it be best to just toss her onto a trade or sale...or would nobody bother with her due to the big job?
I love the pony friends and hoarding one & never fixing it isn't the right thing to do.

There is certainly nothing wrong with doing an alternate re-hair of her, I personally would not bother with her original color. I am sure plenty of people (including me) would love to re-hair her. I know Saja and a couple others have done so already. :)

I don't understand alt-rehairs since you're taking what could be a collector's display pony and turning it into a custom, which I believe limits its appeal. I think if you can restore it you should.  Creamsicle hovers around $15-20 IIRC. So if you don't want to rehair it, why not sell to someone who wants the giraffe in their own collection who would be willing to repair?

There are a finite number of G1s, a lesser number of nice-looking G1s, and over time it will just get smaller as age, storage, time, etc takes its toll on our collections and ones in the 'wild'- so I happen to think a collector should do anything they can to restore and preserve.

I think I'd sell her on as is - I have a zig-zag in my collection with a bad haircut. she stays as she is ;-)

I think it just comes down to personal taste ;-)

If you like her and want to hold on to her or put her in your collection, I would rehair her however you think it would look best. What you could always do is rehair it in white, but add in a pink streak, similar to what this customizer did to their Posey.
Spoiler
Personally, I think either making a blend of a light pink and white for the mane or adding a pink streak to a white mane will bring out the pink symbols on the pony's side a bit better.
The G1 color-change hair set is my grail. Currently own: Mainsail, Seaflower, Shoreline

She is not an expensive pony - $12-14 in very minty condition and having no hair or a serious hair cut is going to drop her down to at least half that value, possibly lower.

Whether she is rehaired with an alternate colour or new hair in her original colour, its always possible to change it again in the future should you or another collector so desire. I dont see any more or less value in a pony rehaired with new hair in a different colour or new hair in the original colour. One is a restoration and the other is - well not really a custom - but simply an alternate restoration.

I say, your pony, your call. If you sell her as, is she is simply going to be rehaired by her new owner anyway no doubt.

I would love to see her in another color :) She is a pony friend with a lot of potential!

And I agree with Hathorcat. Rehairs can always be undone in the future. It's not like removing the original hair from a pony.
