G3 Celebration Salon: Recolor, variant or knockoff?
« on: May 16, 2014, 08:54:58 AM »
So I normally don't buy G3 accessories or playsets, but I saw one at Savers the other day and thought it'd be a nice place to display some of my ponies. I wasn't sure exactly what it was so I looked it up on-line- it definitely uses the same mold as Celebration Salon, but with a few odd differences:

-The color scheme is completely different. For example, the large orange butterfly in the center is purple on mine.

-The decals all look the same, but anything with lettering (such as "Salon") has had it removed- it's otherwise the exact same decal.

I can't find another playset that uses this mold- does anyone know what it is? It has the Hasbro trademark stamp, so if it's a knockoff, the counterfeiters just stole the mold outright and were too lazy/brazen to remove it.

Could it be the Super Sundaes Ice Cream Parlor?

I know there is a fakie "salon"/building that does use the exact mold. However, it's been forever since I've seen a picture of it, and I'm not sure where I could even find a pic. It was a very generic brand of fakie, so I don't even remember the name. If I do come across the pic I'll post a link.
I'll put something here some time

I know what you're talking about. I briefly looked for a pic but couldn't find one.

As mentioned the Super Sundaes Ice Cream Parlour also uses the exact same mould but the decals are different. So I would guess that's not what it is. The set was released 3 different times and there was some variety in colour of finish but not anything as distinct as a completely different colour scheme just the odd decal or accessory colour difference.

There was a fakie version of the set released in the same line as the fakie G2s. They did the G2 Castle, Cotton Candy's Cafe and Amberlocks Salon - each in a couple of different colours most accompanied by a G2 fakie of some kind. However they were released in Europe only if I remember correctly.

Do you have a picture by any chance?

I don't have a picture at the moment- I can try to get one up tomorrow if I can get my phone and computer to play nice. It's not the Ice Cream Parlor- literally the only difference with the decals seems to be the odd removal of the words.

It'd be funny if it was one of the G2 fakies- I saw one of them many months ago, but didn't get her because she was in a bag full of junk and I didn't have the money. An overseas release would be odd, but I've seen stuff like that at thrifts here before, so I guess it's not impossible. Apparently the ponies and other toys I've moved into it are living a lie.  :frolic:
