Free Comic Book Day 2014

Free Comic Book Day has been held on the first weekend in May since 2002! Every year there are a number of titles that are released especially for this day which are FREE! It's meant to be a way to encourage people to get into comics, support local businesses, and celebrate all things comics! Lots of stores do special sales and events like signings and music on the holiday! Did anyone participate?

Check out my loot from FCBD! I also bought three trade paperbacks. Spidey was only $2! I recently moved to a smallish city in West Texas so there's really only one comic store here that isn't a chain like Hastings. Most of the other ones are at least a two hour drive away. Everything is on sale for 15% off and tax free, every day! The store here is called Thunderstruck Comics and Collectibles, run out of a guy's backyard. His shed also serves as part of a store. His wife and daughters were also helping out. Pretty friendly atmosphere! Most of the stuff was Marvel and DC. It wasn't crowded at all, and it was cool to see some parents with kids.

Oh and there are lots of comics I'd like to start reading, but my favorites include Bone, Akiko, Elfquest, Scott Pilgrim, Ms. Marvel, Captain Marvel, Hawkeye, Avatar, The Adventures of Superhero Girl, Courtney Crumrin, Adventure Time, My Little Pony, Yotsuba&! and Usagi Yojimbo. Two of my favorite webcomics are Nimona and Cucumber Quest! My favorite superhero is Spider-Man!

Ill have ot see if the 'local' (30 minutes away) store is participating, though im not into superhero or marvel/dc comics.  I doubt they would have sonic the hedgehog >>

My  friend and I went to our local comic book shop for free comic book day.  It was pretty crowded.  I didn't get anything except for the last issue of Superior Spider-Man.  None of the free comics they had left interested me.  My friend, on the other hand, got a couple of free comics plus a Deadpool trade due to almost everything in store being on sale.

I went ! I got 6 comics, plus the newest issue of the Serenity comic, and 3 MLP ones.

FCBD for the win! I visited my nearest participating store and got some neat freebies, including the Don Rosa book, Mouse Guard and Batman Adventures. My shop had a limit per person so couldn't go mad, but I got the ones I came for, so I was happy! I also picked up the latest installment of Fatale and a Fables book.

The shop was also running a cosplay contest, so we ran into a very stern looking stormtrooper as well as Princess Leia and Enid from Ghost World. I'm defenitely going again next year!

Wow! I love seeing cosplayers! For me, they're one of the best parts of fan conventions, too. And yay, we read Ghost World in one of my college literature classes, but I've never seen anyone dress up as her.

I'm in Aus, but I went to free comic book day and they had sonicsonic. I noticed candieapples had a couple of the same comics as I did.

I was too sick to go - which sucks, because some of the ones you got look awesome!

The one that DC put out is kinda... horrifying, though.

Back when I used to be a comicstore regular and spending like, sixty a month, on FCBD they'd set me aside a pile in case I was late getting to the store. They were really great guys(gender neutral, one was an older woman who was so nice). I wish Marvel and DC hadn't run me off the way they did, or I'd still be their best customer.
