Mr. Super Clear sealer?
« on: May 11, 2014, 08:30:25 PM »
Hey guys, I've been looking into getting a different spray sealer for my customs (mainly for my white customs) and there had been suggestions on using Mr. Super Clear.

My question is where to get Mr. Super Clear and what is the general pricing for it?
How does it compare to Testors Dullcote?

I would keep using Testors Dullcote but sadly it seems to be the culprit that yellowed my G4 custom Seafoam. I'm also happy to look into any other suggestions in sealers that are spay (only because I'm starting to use materials that I can't use a brush on for and I know better than to use Krylon for sealing). I still may end up using Testors Dullcote and just look into maybe using Mod Podge again for some of my other customs *shudders*

I got mine from Junkyspot (the UV cut!) but they're currently out of stock... (so my last seal jobs were done using Testors... it works okay and I haven't had issues with it yet, but I do know a lot of people have issues with the sealer itself yellowing.

Hobby shops are hit and miss-- mostly they just have Testors, but places with a lot of import kits sometimes also have MSC.

You can sometimes find it on Amazon, though-- just while researching the question of where to go when Junkyspot is out. If you search Mister Super Clear, you get a few results. (Junkyspot was cheaper... but a little more hunting around might find you a better price than the first result I pulled up-- at Junkyspot I think I paid thirteen or fourteen dollars, on Amazon I'm seeing the same can going for about twenty bucks.)

PlaJapan sells it for about fourteen/fifteen bucks (the matte, not the UV cut).

And ThinkPink is a European doll/hobby seller that has it for thirteen-fourteen euros and change depending on whether you want matte or UV.

I'll have to look on Amazon again.
What is the perks of the UV cut vs. matted?

UV cut has UV ray inhibitors so it stops any yellowing from the sun. It's an extra "insurance" if you will. I love the flat. And the 1 can had lasted me FOREVER (I mean at least 7 customs and 2 monster high dolls and still going). I think it's 100% worth the money.

Like most sprays, quick light even coats. if you bulk up the coats it bubbles. If you wipe it off quick enough with a makeup sponge you can save it and spraying over it will help even it out.
