Rescenting ponies?
« on: April 17, 2014, 12:34:57 AM »
When a pony or a doll is scented, her perfume only lasts a period of time... is there a way to perfume them again? Maybe putting cologne on them will work, but I'm afraid to alterate their colours. What do you think?

There are some scents that are added to the hair, Dollyhair sells them. I have never used them and I haven't heard a lot of experiences on them. I do have one bottle at home but haven't gotten around using it yet. Other than those fragrances I haven't heard of re-scenting ponies.

I put a small cloth bag containing a cotton ball that has a few drops of scented oil right inside the pony. Not soaked, just a couple of drops will do it. The cloth bag ensures that the oil doesn't touch the plastic and stain it. If you leave that inside for a couple of weeks, the scent will permeate the plastic and at least some of the mane and tail without the worry of discoloration. When you've achieved the level of scent you like you just remove the bag :)

If a pony has lost their scent you can put them in an airtight plastic box for a few weeks and it should bring the smell back, but I think some colours of hair turn green if you do that owo?

I've also heard that heat from sunlight or hot water can help expand the plastic of the hair enough to release more of the scent chemical?

Anyway, I have scented a pony-- a rehaired TAF Yum Yum using a cotton candy scent. It did discolor the white stripe in her hair to sort of an off white, but the scent is very strong. This scent was put in the hair by actually boiling the hair in water with the scent added to it. Now I'd like to try the cotton ball thing! :)

Sometimes the scent is actually just masked by oil and dirt build up over the years which has covered the plastic pores. A good clean and exposure to heat [covered up but popped out in the sun] can bring a lot of fragrance back.

Scented beads sewn up in a small bit of cotton or muslin and then popped inside the pony is what I have done sometimes. I dont like putting anything on the plastic or in the hair - too much of a risk of potential damage.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi
