Restringing Help (BJD)
« on: April 02, 2014, 11:16:07 PM »
I just got my first bjd last week (an IslandDoll Lililth), and while I love her to pieces, her stringing just seems really tight. She doesn't like to sit, and her left arm refuses to hold a pose and keeps trying to snap in and curl. I figured if I just loosen her strings a bit, she'd be fine.

I took her apart and found there really wasn't any extra to loosen her strings, so I ordered some new elastic online. It arrived today and I copied the loops of the old string, and gave it some extra slack. I restrung her arms, and the left was still doing the curling in. Unstring the arms again, loosen the strings some more, and restring. Still curling.

At this point, I'm just worn out, so I'll probably try again tomorrow, but I was wondering if anyone had any helpful suggestions or tips for me. Is the arm not curling because the strings are too tight? Has anyone had this issue before, and how did you fix it?

I don't know how much extra slack I've given the arm loop, but probably a couple centimeters at least.

Thanks gals, you're the best.  ^.^

You may want to use pipe cleaners in her arms as well. That will provide more stability and stop them from snapping.

Hot glue sueding pipe cleaner wiring are your friends! Yu can find several tutorials online. Hot glue sueding may seem super scary at first, but it's actually pretty easy peasy. My Willow had this same arm snapping problem and I sueded her and now she's a bit better.

Moonhawke, are you still having these issues, have you tried to hg sueding her? If not I might be able to help. I often will take dolls and make them star posers for people. I have two dolls I can get to stand on one foot with no wireing, they are just sueded and strung right.

We can always cam and I can walk you through it if you haven't gotten this yet. I would have to find my cam or steal my kids ipad. lol. But if you need help please ask.

I did end up sueding her, it took me a bit to get around to getting a low temp glue gun. She's been posing much better.  :-D  Thanks for the offer.

Glad to hear. Good luck with her and enjoy the posing abilities she has now.
