One of my biggest quandaries is- what to have for breakfast? Before it was always cereal, toasts, pastries, pancakes etc. Now I have an egg with sharp cheese, veggies and avocado; recently one sausage. On the days I didn't have an egg, I'd have oatmeal, but I'm reducing grains altogether so... no oatmeal. I've been having the same egg everyday (and it is rather delicious), but at some point I'd like to switch it up.

So what do you other WF/GF folks have for breakfast?

I usually have mashed butternut squash with coconut milk on top. *goes to fish for the recipe* http://paleoparents.com/featured/breakfast-butternut-squash/ It tastes good whether hot or cold.

I'll also slice up some sweet potatoes, apples and carrots and cook them in coconut oil and cinnamon. I make meat patties on a regular basis on have them a couple meals per day.

Fish and stir-fry veggies makes for a great breakfast. Bone broth is also pleasant on a cold day. I don't drink coffee, so the broth makes for a lovely hot drink.

I've pinned some grain-free recipes here. Although I probably have forgotten most of them since I moved from a regular paleo diet to an autoimmune paleo diet, which is more restricted. What I'd give to be able to have eggs again!

I love to have breakfast with sweet potato (the orange one) rösti (with onion in it). And a baked tomato and egg on the side.

Also little pancakes made out of rasped zuchinni, egg, salmon pieces and fresh mint. Just mix together and frie like little paddy's.

I eat a lot of vegetable soup in the morning on work days, because I can't eat much when I wake up early. And it's easy, put all the stuff in a pan, and by the time I have put on my make-up and clothes and such it's done :)
(I made thes 1 portion packages of stock and veggies and put them in the freezer to make it even more effertless)

And just an avocado is also a favourite for those early non - hungry morning. And a big glas of fruit juice or tomatojuice.

As snack I allways eat during the day at work are nuts, dried fruit, small banana, baby tomatoes, raddish, grapes, edamame, that kind of little stuff.

Lunch is most of the 50 procent left-overs from dinner, and 50 procent something new like fried shrimp/leek, avocado and smoked chicken, asparagus and egg, fried tomato's and onion, tuna salad.

Snacks I eat a home are bonemarrow (addicted to it), nuts and dried fruit, virgin mary, soup, soup, soup. Soup has become my new comfort food :P

My beliefs are that part of this diet is to stay divers. Never forget nuts, fresh herbs and sprouts. I like to experiment with meat too (hence the bonemarrow addiction). There are so many seacreatures to eat, or stuff like chickenfeat and pigtails.

My standard breakfast:

Free range egg with onions and red bell pepper sauteed in coconut oil and sprinkled with sharp white cheddar cheese, one sausage w/ a smear of natural peanut butter (weird, I know), 1/2 avocado, and 1/2 banana.

elish2 - thanks for the advice!

Rainfeather - so glad it appears to be working. I'm trying to stick to natural sugars too: fruit and maple syrup if I really need it. I notice I feel better without refined sugars.

ponyqueen - Avacodo and egg are good too. I also have plantains for breakfast, and sometimes I shred sweet potato and fry it with veggies. I also sometimes have veggie soup for breakfast. I was never a soup person before but it's so nice and warm in my tummy in the morning! I also sometimes have a chicken thigh, or home-made breakfast patty. theclothesmakethegirl, nomnompaleo and paleomom are all blogs I get good recipe ideas from.

SDS - thanks for the link! Looks like you've got lots of yummy stuff pinned!

nom nom this thread make me hungry

The only scary things is... I am a small eater, allways been. With this new diet I calculated my daily calorie intake and it was 900 0_0

I'm still not starved though, and recently even gained 4 kilo's... I guess, like my father says, this average calorie intake is nonsense. He is a sporttrainer, and says it it A. the maximum amount you can take in while staying healthy, B. works for everyone in a different way. Still gave me a bit of a scare though...

*high fives the other celiac's*

I am celiac and I have dermatitis herpetiformis a skin condition which can go along side celiac disease :) I can't even touch bread of use beauty products with wheat or oats in as I get a dreadful rash.

Oats are a bit of a grey area, some celiac's are fine with them, but others can't eat them. I am the kind that cant eat them as I still get a reaction.

I am fine on the diet and don't miss the wheat at all. I wouldn't eat it even if I was tempted due to the six weeks of Intestinal Armageddon that would follow. I have been hospitalised I have been that ill with it.

I hope going GF helps you, but please make sure you eat a well balanced diet to make sure you are not missing out on any important vitamins and minerals!

Does anyone bake with the "gluten-free" flours that are all basically rice, potato and tapioca starch? I heard these are still pretty damaging as far as glycemic indices goes, but anything baked isn't being consumed as health food anyway...?

I make the Glutino bread. It's really good!  I'm Celiac too. I feel 1000x better now that I know and have gone gluten free.

I know it could be damaging to go gf if you do not have Celiac's though-  http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/most-people-shouldnt-eat-gluten-free/

I'm gluten intolerant. I've been eating gluten free since October. I have fibromyalgia, and the wheat was making my joints swell. I feel A LOT better without it. I lived with progressively worse headaches for years (every day Dx) until I realized what was causing them. I'd never go back. I tried eating cheese sticks with bread crumbs once after I stopped eating it and BAM! Headache. Never again. If you have fibromyalgia, or any joint problems, I HIGHLY recommend trying a gluten free diet. Once you feel the difference you won't ever want it again. I don't even want to eat the carrot cake my boyfriend loves so dearly. He'll be eating a slice beside me and the only thing I'll steal is the cream cheese icing on top. lol. ; P

I eat wraps made with corn tortillas, baked potatoes, Progresso soups that are gluten free (it's good over rice with some chicken too), asian food with gluten free soy sauce (La Choy), fruits, veggies, corn based cereal, ect. If anyone wants ideas for eating gluten free, I'm more than willing to help. Most stores have a gluten free section for pasta and other things, like cookies that are gluten free. You don't have to give up everything you love; you just change the ingredients. You can still bake with rice flour (or the plethora of other types of flours) and xantham gum. Betty Crocker even makes premade mixes for baking that are wheatless!
The best part is you naturally end up losing a few pounds too.
I think every lady in the world would enjoy that side effect. xD
It also forces you to eat healthier too, which is a plus.

Some of my favorite things to cook: Spaghetti with quinoa pasta (just check the sauce and make sure it doesn't have wheat), chicken breasts with Italian dressing as marinade (Same thing, check the marinade. Wishbone is gluten free), quinoa grains with a variety of ingredients, loaded backed potatoes, and homemade mac n' cheese with quinoa elbow pasta, a tiny bit of milk, sour cream (or cream), and a mix of colby and cheddar. Cumin, sea salt, and black pepper are good in the mac. You could also make it spicy with cayenne pepper if you like.

Sometimes I feel like the only one who think's it's fairly easy to just NOT eat certain things.
I see a lot of people focus on replicants of certain stuff, like bread, pancakes, etc. Like eating a vegetarian hamburger...

I think western society is too much brought up with the fact that you have to eat bread/cereal in the morning and lunch..  potatoes or pasta for dinner..

A lot of societies don't eat like that. They eat soup for breakfast or 3 warm meals a day. Or just meatand vegatables.
I think it is a real handicap for western people to have been brought up with this food pattern... 'eeew soup/salad/whatever for breakfast? eeew!! That's dinner! I could never eat that as breakfast!' Is a thing I hear a lot.

I think it's easier to let go of these western principes. Stop trying to make stuff that resembles 'bread, cake, muffins' etc. Enjoy all the other things you can eat.

Also I find it really annoying that at work people make fun of me because I eat 'healthy'. They have a cheese sandwich, but as soon I have a cheese sandwich WITH garden cress  (example, I don't eat bread or cheese) they go crazy!! I'm some kind of show off on how healthy I eat =/

Anyone else has this experience?

Different cultures bring about different eating habits. There is nothing strange about any of them in my opinion. I never really like cereals for breakfast, and do not mind making any type of food any time during the day. To me food has no specified time to be served.

I was making my own green juice at home (fruits and veggies juiced together) and I came up with a recipe I liked that was nutritious and brought it to work with me. Everyone would wriggle up their noses at it going "eww what is that"...until I poured out samples and dared everyone to drink it and they loved it.. lol :)
