How to cut hair?
« on: March 24, 2014, 08:30:07 PM »
I've rehaired a few ponies now, but have SO much trouble cutting their hair to the length the original hair was. It always ends up choppy looking. Any advice? Better to cut while dry or wet?  My poor Minty was rehaired in the wrong colour white, so I did it again, but now the cut is all choppy and I worry about the plug holes ripping (a few already have) if I try to do it again, and I don't want to do it again just to have it go choppy again. Help!

I style it wet, and blowdry, then cut it with scissors dry, and then use a hair trimmer to smooth it out if needed.

Ooh yours look so good! Thanks for the tips. I'll see if I can salvage Minty's rehair - really don't want to do it for a third time! I'm pretty sure I cut it wet, so I'll try doing it dry this time :)

If I want a even length I cut it wet, I spread it out on a cutting mat in a fan and cut it with a exacto-knife. ;) Or I just attack it with scissors if I want a wild look. ^^

Yeah, maybe the exacto knife would have worked better than my crappy scissors. I wonder if the rehair I've done is salvageable....Maybe I could try fixing it with the knife before redoing it...

I think mine are getting dull now, but I bought a pair of *hair cutting scissors* is the make--up area of walmart a couple years ago and it made a huge difference

Thanks Roogna! Didn't really think about getting hair scissors - I'll definitely try to find some!

Hi hi hi c: I used to style the dolls and ponies I had when I was younger and they always came out choppy until I used curved grooming scissors.

I'm a dog groomer so I have weird things for hair stuff but hey it makes for a really nice cut with a curve or you can use the other side for detailing.
