Appliance shopping is the pits
« on: March 15, 2014, 05:36:10 PM »
Our washing machine broke last Sunday. Today was the first day we had to shop for a new one. After four hours of going to different stores and bargaining with each one, we finally have one ordered. . .but it won't be delivered until the 24th.  >_<

I had class from ten - noon, lunch, shopping from 1-5, then some random trips to stores like Walmart and Harbor Freight, and we didn't get home until 7. I am exhausted!

I know those feels.  Somedays just wear a girl out.  My friend said she'd pay me $25 to wash and fold her massage therapy laundry.  What she didn't tell me was that there were six loads worth on top of the 4 that I had to do of my own laundry as well.  Not worth the money for sure! Hopefully you can sleep in tomorrow morning and recover from all the running around!

We have been dithering over a new television for the downstairs lounge for about 2 months now :P I am the hold out in not wanting to spend the money but I also get really frustrated at the level of choice and how complicated it all is!

I am not a fan of shopping for big purchases which have so many options - its stressful and mind numbing all at the same time! So I feel your pain.

Yeah we need a new stove. Not looking forward to the process.

Get a GE stove.  They're great, my mother has the one with the electric ceramic top.  It is *such* a breeze to clean and I miss it so much since living in an apartment and getting stuck with a traditional electric stove.  The kind with the stupid coil burners and what not.  Ugh.  We did convince management to chuck it AND the dishwasher and now have Kenmore but they are both still SO cheap.  Well, the Dishwasher is pretty nice but the stove is stupidly dinky.

Right now I would *kill* to be able to pick my own appliances.  I can also vouch for LG/Samsung's upright Washing and Drying machines.  The Washers don't have agitators so they're a lot easier on your clothing and don't chew them up.  Also, direct drive system so that there are no belts or anything like that to repair.  Less stuff to break, basically on them.

And Frigidaire fridges do last forever.  Parents have one that is going on about 10-12 years old, I believe.  No problems what so ever.

I hope I don't sound like an appliance nerd. . .  I just research heavily into everything when we would pick out new appliances.  << >>

Part of the reason I'm glad we rent a house at the moment.  At least my landlord has to deal with those decisions!  (And they are pretty picky about the appliances they purchase, so the one's that have been replaced are all excellent).

My husband actually loves doing the research on new things, so I just let him have at it.  Usually he'll pick a few things to look at, and then I go with him to see them in person.  He does the online research even if we're not buying anything.  I don't get it.  It's his thing.   I guess I'm really lucky that way that I don't have to do it.

I haven't really cared much about what we get anyway, so I'm usually happy with his choices.  The only exception to that was the stove.  That I *loved* shopping for.  I was so happy to be getting rid of the old stove which had not only been driving me absolutely nuts since we bought the house with its refusal to light half the time and it's inability to cook anything, but it also set me on fire once.  That was what got my husband to agree to buy the stove in the first place.  Yeah.  I was happy to shop for that.  2 Years of being unable to bake anything and having to worry about the house going up because the burners wouldn't light as the place filled with gas.  Best day of shopping in my whole life!

We got a GE stove.  I absolutely love it!  It's true, I'd probably love any stove I got simply because it's not trying to kill me.  But I do particularly love this stove.  Best purchase ever!

We actually got an LG Washer with no agitator and it has an app for your smartphone so if anything it wrong the app will sink your phone with the washer and tell you what is wrong. Super awesome. Plus a ten year warranty.

Appliance shopping is the pits and washers are expensive. We ended up picking up a HE set after christmas. My husband was the one that did the hours of going between stores and looking online. Our set has that same feature Khema.
Don't feel bad about being too busy either. I haven't had a full day off in 2 weeks and most days I work 8 am until 1030 pm.

It's here and installed! Going through an empty cycle to get any dust and dirt out of the system. Tomorrow I will spend the day doing laundry! I've never been so happy to be able to wash clothes!
