G4 Dilemma

So, I have a small collection of G1 ponies, and a small collection of G3 ponies. Both collections used to be larger, but I wanted to narrow them down to just the ones I loved the most. I've never liked G2, never will (no offense to anyone, of course). I thought that I felt the same way about G4s. I didn't like the "Core 7"/G3.5 or whatever they were called, and I think I carried that negativity over. And the G4 were so different and strange to me. But, being on the arena, I've started looking into them more, and I'm beginning to think some of them are quite adorable. Did anyone else have this happen to them?

Same with me! The core 7 and G3.5 totally burnt me out on collecting. I wasn't really interested in G4s either. Then I watched the first episode of FiM and I was hooked I started thinking they were adorable and I really love G4 now

I do love the cartoon, just not the toys. I don't think they have the same appeal as G1 or G3.

I only collect G2 (but I do enjoy G1 and have a few and I like G3 well enough) but G4 just doesn't appeal to me in any way. My sister owns some and I just find them a bit odd.

I loved the concept of G4 from the moment I heard about it. I thought they were cute, colourful and had their own unique expression, and from the start I wasn't disappointed with the toys!

Now, the only G4s I bought were:

* The original release of main six (wanted to have this since I was too cheap to get the first set of G3 ponies wen they came out), still in their boxes

* Dewdrop Dazzle, gifted to me by my boyfriend (she's probably my favourite)

* White Celestia and Luna (along with Pinkie and Rarity)

Now that the G4 toyline has turned so mundane (and the ones I want to buy have sh*tter quality than ever, pardon my French), I find myself turning back to the G1 ponies. I fondly remember the cartoons and feel nostalgic about them. But if I could dream I would get all the G2s that I missed as a kid; Copper Glow, Golden Glow II and Princess Trixibelle.

So, no ... G4 does not provide me with the "Pony feeling". The G3 toyline came closer with all of its multicolour splendour! That said I enjoy FiM and the community it has spawned, but sometimes I find myself missing "the good old days".

I was the same way! At first I just watched the show and glanced at the toys I was like eh... Then I think I started collecting them when the crystal empire ones were out. I think it was the wedding them lol. And, now I have almost all the store released g4s lol. It's weird how your opinion can change!

I wasn't happy when I first saw them and how small they were. And how expensive the Fashion Styles were. I could hardly believe it! But I adored Rarity's color scheme even then, and after I was told where I could watch the show, I ended up hooked on G4s. I just wish I'd gotten hooked a little bit harder so I would have picked up all non-main character Ponies I used to see.

I feel the same way. I did not like the G2 ponies or 3.5 ponies. And it took me a little over two years before I gave the G4 ponies a try. Some of them still are kind of funny looking to me but they have grown on me

They are certainly very very different from everything that came before [except perhaps G3.5] however for me they are still MLP. So I happily jumped in and purchased the toy line from the start Its nice to have a collection which follows the progression of a toy line for over 30 years.

I have a few, but they still look odd to me.  Ah and someone's going to throw something at me for this, but I'm kind of tired of hearing the word bronie (and that will be the last time I type that).  Maybe because I haven't been aware of the negativity surround it until recently, not saying all of them are negative about other Gens.  But why the hate for the older Gens....?

Maybe I should just stay away from Youtube comments
