Chalkboard Paint?

Alright I need some advice!

So I'm planning on painting something with Chalkboard paint and I was wondering, what is the best way to go about this? I only ask because the material is plastic and I want to know how all those nice smooth coats of chalkboard paint was put on ponies.

Should I use a primer like Google says to or is that not really needed? Also what brands have been used and with what results? I am excited for this project but at the same time I don't want to mess it up. ^^'

I can only think of one or two ponies I've ever seen done with it.  One was for the UK ponycon believe, a styling sized pony.  Anyone remember that artist?

Yeah the one with the white yarn hair is the one I keep thinking of too. I was hoping it had been done more since then. I might have to test this out on similar type material first. lol
