Good places to sell a laptop that AREN'T eBay?
« on: March 04, 2014, 04:57:18 PM »
It's not often I find myself asking for help selling stuff, but I have a laptop i've been trying to sell for over a year - to the point where I've probably chopped about 250$ off the price over the years. I get a lot of confused people on the local classifieds - they think it's a tablet like an iPad, when it's actually got a wacom digitizer in the screen (so you can just draw digitally right on the screen) which folds over the keyboard. (I'm not sure what makes them think this. There's a photo on the listing and everything.)

As it is, I think my problem selling it locally is it's a bit of a specialty product - the non-tablet version sells for about half price on average, and people keep trying to get me to drop the price to that. (as it is, i'm already selling it cheaper than ebay+shipping+import by about 50$).

It's really frustrating and I was hoping someone would know a feeless - or low fee, even - place to sell laptops? I have no problem shipping or taking paypal (their standalone fees are much more reasonable than ebay's.)

I guess this is actually half vent and half asking for help, lol. Hope this is the appropriate place to put this!

Have you tried craigslist? Aside from eBay, there's also etsy.

Craigslist in my area gets scarce views - i've had it listed on kijiji, which is basically the same thing. online classifieds.

I thought etsy was only for vintage stuff and handmades?

Yeah, you really shouldn't use etsy to sell something like a laptop. Alternatives might be Bonanza, Ecrater, and Amazon Marketplace. I started using Bonanza recently, and it's quite nice -- very simple, and the fees are less than ebay's. You can read their fee policies here.

Now, whether my items will sell is another story. :P I don't think Bonanza and Ecrater are as popular as ebay. It's still probably worth a look though. I THINK Ecrater might be fee-less, but I haven't tried it.

Have you tried looking on FaceBook to see if there is perhaps a group page for selling electronics? Otherwise I have no other suggestions than what blue rose and Marionette have posted already.

I'll take a look into bonanza! Initial looks shows that it actually has a category for computer stuff, so that's promising. The amazon.ca marketplace only had like... five catergories, for stuff like books, video, music cds. Not very impressive conisdering what you can sell through the amazon.com marketplace.

I don't actually have a facebook, so that kind of makes facebook groups a wee bit difficult :P

edit: I've listed it on bonanza - along with moving the last few things over there. I vaaastly prefer it over storenvy.
