Selling Bait Lots on eBay
« on: February 18, 2014, 07:38:21 PM »
Hi all,

So, I have a number of bait ponies I've been trying to sell for 1-2 dollars apiece. I've had a few of them sold and sent to new homes but I really want to get them moved soon. (I want to swap back to a smaller shelf in my room, be able to display my new anime collection as I buy new things, have less clutter.)

So anyway, I'm curious what you all would recommend me pricing baits at if I put them in a lot on ebay? Some of them need a lot of work, some just some tlc, some are flat out custom bait. With shipping, would $2 a pony be intriguing?

And any tips for photographing lots..? Just photograph both sides and document all flaws?

Personally I don't like to spend more than $1-$2 per bait, maybe more if it's a harder to find bait. I don't think that condition needs to be stated for each pony, maybe more of a generalization like:

These are bait ponies, these may have age spots, regrind, bite marks, severe haircuts, marks that can't be removed etc.

I don't think it's necessary to take individual photo's, maybe a couple of group shots showing the DS and NDS. Bait ponies I think are easier to sell with less info because they aren't being purchased to be in a collection, the purpose is to give them new life :)

I could certainly show you!  Like I said, some of them would be in the garbage if they weren't MLP, others need a few minutes of work.

Personally I still think that describing them all as best you can and taking as many pics as possible is the best way to go if you're selling on ebay. I know that is a time consuming pain and they are bait etc and *most* of your potential buyers would totally understand + accept a brief description saying they may have certain flaws... but there are also plenty picky (and sometimes crazy) people in evilbay land and some of them wont read a short description or look carefully at a group pic -then they will buy them expecting the ponies are better than they are and then kick up trouble . Some dont understand what bait means- or some of the other flaws. I've been there :yikes: .  So I think in the end its best to do a thorough description/take plenty pics - even for baits- to save the potential for buyer issues. Its up to you of course though ;)
if you can sell them here it might be easier to try that first :relaxed:

If you're not interested in trying to wrangle with eBay, you might also consider having a "bait" section on your sales thread and marking them "3 for $6" (or something similar) so you're not having to worry about shipping one baity pony.

I know I'd love to see what sort of baity ponies you have for sale too!  I love fixer-uppers!

this is my ebay listings:

http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/stormness_1/m.html

I've got a few bait lots up at the moment if you'd like to take a lot at my format. I do a general description and a photo, I really just want them gone! I've listed them all in lots of 4/5, for $5 a lot + shipping, but they're selling, so it works.

It can depend on the type of pony you have as well as the base colour - a Big Brother bait is more in the $6 [minimum] region but a BBE bait...well...you may need to bribe someone to take her off your hands :P

Also what some people consider bait, others may be more of the opinion as restorable.

However, if you are now left with the remains of attempted sales then bait lots are a great idea. However, you should make sure your lots stay in weight sizes which does not make shipping crackers in price. If you have had them up for $2 a piece then I would go with lots of 8-10 ponies and $10 price point. Its cheap but if there is no market for singles at $2 you will increase the chances of sale by slashing the price you are looking for.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi
