Bubble Mailer to South Africa

I'm trying to send a package of one pony from the US to South Africa. I went to the post and had it quoted.The shipping came out to about $41.50. For a 5 ounce package, this seems a bit high. Does this sound right? Anyone have experience shipping overseas?

for first class?? That seems high for a 5 oz bubble mailer first class,, but sounds right for priority mail.

It sounds like they quoted you for Priority mail, which they usually do by default (in my experience) - if you ask for first class mail, it should be cheaper.

I just priced it out online, and it should be $12.15 at the PO for a 5 oz bubble mailer to SA, and $10.94 if you buy the postage online.

Priority is so expensive for international! But it does come with some tracking/insurance, so that's nice, if you/the buyer can afford it.

Thanks so much! I asked her for first class but she said it wasn't showing up. I'll just bring it back later this week, maybe a different person can help me out.

Yikes! *agrees with everyone else* They are definitely quoting you Priority prices. I find it funny they told you "Oh!, First Class is not coming up." Sure it's not  the sneaky little pete's.
