Does anyone know of any high quality modern record players?
« on: February 23, 2014, 09:09:12 AM »
I don't know how many big audiophiles there are here, but I'm looking for a fairly high end record player but not something extremely pricy. I have one of those Crosley all-in-one things you can get at any local Target but the playback isn't the greatest and the built in speakers are weak. There is also no way for me to hook better speakers up to the player I have.

Does anybody know of any fairly high end ones?

I'll try to remember to ask my MIL about hers. I'm pretty sure she had to get one to play her hubby's old album.

I like my Crosley. It has a line-in so you can plug it into an ipod, external speaker, etc. It's not an all-in-one.  I see there's a really nice Jenson on Amazon that's highly rated and requires an amplifier. Looks like a good choice, maybe.

My husband has a Dual record player. As long as you have speakers, etc already, it's excellent! It's a German brand and was only $300 CDN.

If you have any questions, I'll have to ask him  I'm too afraid to touch it!

Ah, I have one of those Crosley all-in-ones, too! I am impressed at how many things they figured out how to make out of... plastic. Like, the needle. Wat?

It plays things a little too fast, which makes my Rush albums hilarious.

It didn't take me long to end up with a proper turntable. I think this is the one that I have:
http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-PL-990-Automatic-Stereo-Turntable/dp/B00009QORL

It's a nice rig for listening to records once in a while. :) I don't have a well-trained ear for sound, but I can hear that it's leaps and bounds better than the Crosley was!

I have one by pioneer that has adjustable speed on it. I also have a pair of bose speakers attached to it.

Yeah, that's one of the biggest annoyances with my Crosley too. I am very familiar with what most of the albums I own are supposed to sound like from listening to them on other formats, so whenever I play one I always notice they sound a tad bit fast.

I definitely would like something I can hook a nice pair of external speakers to. I'll have to check out that Pioneer, I have a Pioneer Surround receiver hooked up to my TV and it is amazing.

This is one I use http://www.audio-technica.com/cms/turntables/9a7f42b88ee1e14b/index.html I bought it through Amazon, so it was $7x.xx instead of the $120 msrp, so Amazon may be a good place to buy from.

Maybe they have one specifically for your needs? I heard they were a good, cheap brand to count on for audio stuff.

The farthest back I go are cassette players unfortunately :(

Soinds like a turntable will work, if you can get one cheap enough?

I highly recommend anything by Pioneer.  They're not overly pricey nor are their speakers.
