Solved! People fail at their simple jobs miserably
« on: February 05, 2014, 11:26:15 AM »
I put off making this in hopes my package would magically turn up, but since it hasn't I need some help trying to figure out what to do next.

I bought a lot of ponies on ebay (including FS AJ), and they were shipped promptly and "delivered" Monday. Two thing to note: I live in an apartment complex and standard procedure is that all packages not delivered in person go to the apartment office immediately. The second is that our regular mail carrier switched routes, so we have a series of subs who never follow aforementioned rule  -_-

So after getting some makeshift notice (they ran out of the pink ones?) that said it was with 'manager', I checked in with the office and had 3 different people check for it and all stated it wasn't there. I checked back again yesterday, still not there. I also went to the post office and had an employee take down my number and write up a report on the situation. She called the carrier but he didnt remember anything about my package specifically.

I don't know what to do now, just wait? Hope it turns up?  :( I feel sick to my stomach, what do I do if they never find it?

First off, sorry to hear that this happened

Now you said you live in an apartment complex with a head office where parcels should go if you're not home? Do they by any chance have security cameras at least in the office area? If so, why not ask if they can take a look at the footage from that day to see if it was dropped off?

I don't really know what else to advise since you've already contacted the post office about it.

I do hope it turns up.

Oh Rhini that's terrible. I know how excited you were about getting them by your brag post

Just a note that maybe of some help, a delivery confirmation means is that it was scanned. It does not mean it was delivered to the correct place. (This is from my old postman).
Third, a lot of postmen scan their packages ahead of time. This is against post office policy but they are not willing enforce this rule.

If your local Postmaster does not resolve this, I would then call 1-800-ASK-USPS to file a complaint. Someone in the chain of command is bound to pay attention.
Although this may not help if your package is going to be lost or misdelivered. It will help if the carrier were to be scanning when they're supposed to be scanning, where it was misdelivered then could be narrowed-down based on the time of the scan.

So what I am trying to say is hopefully it was misdelivered or improperly scanned.

Rhini, everyone here is so much more helpful than my suggestion of "wander around the apartment complex in the snow to see if it fell out of the truck," heh  :cold::yikes:.  I sure hope it shows up!!!

I really like the idea of the security camera footage and inevitably calling that number ponylady provided.  You guys are so smart!  Something is bound to work...  :tackleglomp:

I knew this would happen of course right after I posted this (luckily) but I found it!! The people in the apartment office filed it under the seller's last name, not mine  -_- -_- -_- -_- -_- -_-

I got a description of the package itself from the seller and gave it to them, then they were able to locate it, so it actually has just been sitting there since monday. I swear I deal with so many incompetent people on a daily basis it hurts my brain  >_<

But thank you everyone so much! It ended well enough  :)

I had a nagging feeling, they've done this before believe it or not. Some wrote "to rhini" on a package for me and they assumed that was the last name @_@

Wow, talk about incompetence! I'm so glad you got it sorted, though. And if this ever happens again, you know what to ask them at the office!
