Questions about selling my collection.
« on: December 30, 2013, 03:06:01 AM »
I haven't been on here in probably years at this point.  I'm looking into selling my G3 collection.  I was just wondering if people are still collecting them or not?

I'm also not sure about how to sell them.  I've never sold on Ebay, just bought.  Would it work out better to sell on here and just take offers, or do you get more for them on Ebay?

It's sad to be thinking about moving them out, but they are all just packed away and should be with someone who enjoys them.

Most of mine are MIP, but a few of my earliest ones I did de-box, but never played with, they were only on display.

I'll try to find a list of everything I have, I know I had one at one point.

Also if anyone has any ideas on how to ship the Super Long Hair so the hair doesn't get messed up, that would be great.  I though about wrapping it around a pencil maybe?

Sorry this is so scattered, I'm just way out of the pony loop, and rules for the Arena even.  Hope this was posted in the right place?

I sold my G3:s but i sold them on a Swedish auction site but did not get much for them.
But if you are going to sale here i might want to take a look of the ponys you got :)
Sorry for not answering all of your questions :O

Sorry you have to sale, but glad you might put them up here rather than Ebay. Ebay fees are too much! Anyways Im interested in seeing what you got

There's still a market for them. A lot of people joined the community when the new MLP show came out and now they're playing catch up collecting previous generations. In general, you'll get more selling them individually. However, if you don't want to deal with the hassle of mailing out dozen of packages and waiting for them all to sell you could sell them as one large lot. I routinely see large lots on eBay sell for crazy amounts. Now is also a good time to be selling because people have Christmas money to spend. As to eBay vs. Arena I personally prefer the Arena. With eBay you're going to be charged a final value fee then Paypal will also be taking their portion. eBay does have a high level of visibility going for it though so more people would probably see your ponies than on the Arena. It's really a matter of personal preference in the end.

As for shipping SLHs, I find that wrapping the mane around the neck and the tail around a back leg works just fine. I put a layer or two of tissue paper around the pony with her hair wrapped around her and have never had any complaints of mussed hair.

Good luck with your sales, it's always hard letting go but at least you know they'll be going to other collectors who will cherish them

I might be interested in some of your ponies :) I have several G3 ponies high up on my want list and I've been buying more MIB G3 ponies lately as well. You might be able to sell your collection more quickly through ebay though. Good luck with your sales wherever you set up shop!

I'd definitely consider selling here before ebay for G3s :) I'd also be interested to see what you have or if you have anything in the way of fair exclusives ;) x

 Its always hard to make a decision like this. My first suggestion would be that while you are selling your collection, consider keeping a couple which are most precious or sentimental to you - just 2 or 3 or 4 of them as a memento :)

As for selling, personally I prefer the Arena; sure, on ebay you get a larger market and more potential bidder/buyers but on the Arena you have no final value fees, no listing fees and the room to work with buyers to potentially sell multiple ponies in lots even if you initially list them individually.

As SailorEarth mentions, there is still a market for G3s and more people collection than ever before. However I would say that sometimes they can take a little longer than you would like to sell and often its best to do things like "5 for $10" or similar offer lots in order to move on the most hard to sell and common ones. But I would start by listing them individually with the prices you wish to sell them at first; and only move on to offered lots if you have any which you cannot sell by themselves.

I also agree with simply using tissue paper/kitchen roll to wrap the SLH hair around the leg when you are packaging them to ship. It keeps it nice and tame and ensures it reaches your buyer as you ship it.

Thank you all so much for your input and advice, I really appreciate it!  I won't be home to look through my collection probably until this weekend.  I'll try and find the list I made as well as take some pictures.  I'm thinking I'll try selling on here first, then I can always do leftovers in lots on Ebay or something like that.  I would still appreciate any insight anyone else may have until I get this rolling.

My only issue with doing it on here is I don't know what anything is worth anymore.  I could always take offers first I guess?

I'm in sort of the same boat but find myself wondering if I should use Kijiji so I needn't worry about shipping at all. :wonder: Probably won't get as much $$$ for it though.

You can try the price check archive forum here or ended ebay auction searches for an initial overview. Or of course post here price check threads and people will be happy to help you out :)

Thank you everybody for your help so far!  I finally have a list so tomorrow I'll probably start to get price checks and things.  Here's the link to my list: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9mV-LuP8Pp8TmJXRmlhdHphcWc/edit?usp=sharing

(L) = Loose

All loose ponies are in displayed condition only.  They have never been played with.  I still have the boxes and/or back-cards to them all I think if people are interested in them.

I also have accessories and smaller pony tins and things to go through, but I wanted to get the ponies taken care of first.
