I agree with the bagging up and surface clean :) Unless a plush is just that - all plush - I only every surface clean. Mainly because the easiest things can be damaged  - hidden cardboard in the plush to support certain sections or even hard plastic [such as that on Rarity's face] can be easily scratched even within the protection of a pillow case.

Good luck with the spa!

I use straight up vinegar and a cloth to clean...kills a lot of stuff including smells and it also does a great job of cleaning marks off of plastic!
Urocyon, I've had those mites get to our snakes before...we have huge boa constrictors and stuff, but we also take in rescues. One came in so sick and covered in them, she'd lost SO much blood...I felt aweful for her. We used baby oil and Vaseline to smother them and had to keep using vinegar in her terrarium to make sure they didn't spread. What a nightmare! She did get better, though and now she's absolutely gorgeous! :)

Oh dear... to be honest I never think much about where toys have been when I get them at thrift stores. :( And I buy a good amount of stuffed toys at Savers. Oh well, no problems yet...

Good luck getting her clean!

I think a lot about where toys have been previously, which is one reason why I'm one of the more picky buyers. This is a very interesting and informative thread on plushie care! I only ever bought one plushie second-hand, a Darkwing Duck, and I just wiped him off when he arrived. Good thing he apparently didn't come with problems. I'll have to remember the isolation trick if I ever buy any more!

Personally, I think she'd be just fine going through the wash.  ^.^ I've washed many talking, and even some moving, plushies, and have never had one not work after a wash. In fact, I washed what I think is a similar baby pony to yours; Skywishes, I think? ; who was both animatronic and talking and she still works.

Just make sure the batteries are out before washing her, and don't put her in the dryer! The heat will melt her mane.

oh yeah, the years of mineral oil have passed here as well. We use to breed snakes for petstores and do rescue so we had alot of snakes which equaled alot of mites!! We are now so paranoid  that now any bedding  of any type that comes into the house is either frozen or baked.
