Goof off?
« on: January 16, 2014, 08:27:31 PM »
I've read a million different places that goof off is the way to go when removing cutie marks and eyes, but when I looked up goof off online I found half a dozen different types so I'm wondering if I can get some input on what kind is the best or any other tips/hints for using it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

100% pure acetone is what the majority of us use here. You can grab a bottle of Onyx brand for less than $4 at Walmart.

I don't know anything about the stuff you're referring to though. Sorry.

Thanks much! I will have to see if I can get some since I've learned the hard way that acetone nail polish remover usually leads to horrible smudging.

Yes pure acetone works, nail polish remover not so much. You'll find the pure acetone right near the nail polish remover.

I've not been able to find pure acetone by the nail polish remover but maybe once.
You can also buy larger cans of it in Walmart and places like Home Depot, over in the paint section by the paint stripper.

Target generally has pure acetone polish remover, if there's one in your area. I'm sure Walmart would as well.

Thanks for all the tips/suggestions everyone. :) :Looks like acetone is the way to go then, anyone have tips on keeping it from smearing symbols all over the pony and such? I'm not so good with repaints and I've had a few customs that had to be drastically changed from my original idea because of pink or yellow smears on their bottoms.

I swear by goof off, you can get it at home depot or lowes :) I get the professional strength, its a clear liquid in a yellow can with a red top. You have to be REALLY careful with it though, it will literally eat through most materials. I generally pour some into the cap and dip a qtip in it to remove any marks.

Pure acetone won't smear your symbols. It will remove them. You can, if you can't find pure acetone, use nail polish remover and sunscreen. Coat the symbol in a blob of sunscreen, then use the nail polish remover on cotton square to wipe it away. If it's a heavy symbol, you may need to repeat the process a time or 2. I don't know why it works, but it does. Then use some soap and water (dish soap works well) to remove any excess sunscreen or nail polish remover. Make sure you wash it well and remove all the sunscreen oils after or you may have issues with paint not sticking.
