Creamsicle the G1 giraffe friend: color variation from Year 5 to 6?

    I have two of Creamsicle, the G1 giraffe pony friend. Creamsicle was released in Year 5 (1986-87) and again in Year 6 (1987-88).

    The two I have both have a hoof marked 1987, with all other information the same. They're both from the US.

    So, I was looking at them and noticed that they don't have the same body color and hair color. They're only slightly different. One is yellow with white hair, and the other is orange with cream hair. I've had them for ages and feel a little silly for not noticing it sooner! 

     I checked the usual sources for information about things like this and didn't find anything.

     Does anyone know if they're from the two different releases and, if so, which is which?

Creamsicles hair is fading pink, so the different shades are likely from different amounts of fading.

No, Creamsicle's hair is meant to be white.
I've never seen an orange Creamsicle before, have you got a photo of them both together?

I don't think there are purposeful color variants of the Pony Friends produced from the factory.  I think if you have differently colored ones, it's probably due to age/plastic quality/storage conditions in a nearly-30 year old toy.

This is my favorite pony friend and I would love to see any color variation from over time.

    I'll take pics tomorrow I'll edit the title of the thread to indicate that pics have been added. Whatever the cause, they do look interesting together!

    I first thought it must be from color changes due to decades of who-knows-what storage conditions, and that's probably all it is! It seemed possible that they were different in each year because the color is so even-- and looks pretty, unlike most of the pony changes out there, such as the typical regrind.

    I think it's neat how the orange one is quite close to the color of the ice cream treat Creamsicle!

Really? Huh. One of mine had hair that was quite pinkish, so I always assumed it was fading pink. It must have been discolored somehow. My bad - I admit I don't know a ton about the pony friends. Always learning

There certainly was not any intentional change between the years so I would love to see pictures as well

Would it by any change be that the orange one with cream hair has simply discoloured [perhaps been exposed to nicotine or something when she was with her original owner?] and that has caused the problem?

The first thing that I thought of if there's an orangey-crème hair discoloration is that the insides are rusty and it's coming out of the body into the hair... ::shudders::
