Question about Greek Cotton Candy / ponies in general!
« on: January 02, 2014, 02:15:55 AM »
Hello all - it's been a while since I posted on here, so hello to everyone and I hope you are all well!

I'm fairly new to Nirvana ponies (not collecting!) and have recently got into collecting just these instead of HK ponies. I bought a Greek Peachy and a Greek Cotton Candy / Rozlyn from a seller on eBay (from Greece) but I'm a little confused. Peachy is very soft and squishy and underneath her hooves I can faintly see "Hong Kong" from the original mold. Her eyelashes are very thin and I'm almost positive she is Greek. However Cotton Candy has "filled in" hooves with the putty stuff over Hong Kong, almost like a Macau, her body is a lot harder and her eyelashes look a lot thicker - are Macau's always marked Macau? I have no doubt about Peachy but I'm not so sure about Cotton Candy. I have read that Greeks have a distinctive vanilla / baby powder-y smell; they both certainly do smell like this! These are my first Greek ponies so I have nothing to go on, so any help is much appreciated!

Thanks everyone! :D

Hi, the Greeks I own are all very soft and squishy and the Macau Ponies I have are marked all Macau. Possibly Cotton Candy Isn't greek? Do you have a Picture of her?

I'm afraid I only have the sellers original photos as my camera's gona AWOL - I hope these are alright to post? x: (if not I'll delete them and am very sorry! ;_; )

Like I said, they both smell vanilla-y and have squishier bodies than my other ponies, but it's just the hoof markings / eyes that are confusing me!

Peachy has faint "Hong Kong" on her left front hoof whereas Cotton Candy just has it putty'd in. You can't really see it clearly in the pictures but no trace of Macau marking underneath. What other nationality could she be? I'm wondering whether to contact the seller and ask how she knows it is Greek, but I feel stupid. XD

You say they both are soft and squishy? I must have misunderstood you before, I am sorry. English is not my native language and sometimes i understand the things not like they are meant to be. If they both have a squishy body I am pretty sure that they are Greeks. The Macau Ponies are not that soft. I have checked my greek ponies for you and some do have written Hong Kong and others don't and have only putted in something just like your cotton candy. I have a Greek cotton Candy and can take a Photo of her within the next few days for comparison if you would like.

No I apologise, I didn't make myself clear the first time! I meant Peachy is VERY squishy - Cotton Candy is still squishier than my other ponies, but not quite as much as Peachy! Oh brilliant, thank you so much for your help! I feel a little more confident that she is in fact Greek. From what I can gather, if she was Macau she would have Macau written underneath :D Thank you so much for your help! I would love to see pictures of your Cotton Candy if you have chance, if not then don't worry about it! ^-^

They look perfect and very Greek :)

It is quite common for the Hong Kong mark to still be slightly visible. The factory did a bad job covering up the hoof marks in the moulds El-Greco used to make ponies.

Miss Violet, the rainbow ponies have marks under there feet :) they have the letter Greek Alpha or Beta under there feet.

The hair on Cotton Candy most definitely looks Greek to me :) It possibly just depends on the mould used.

Oh wow thank you both so much! I feel a lot more at ease now. So many knowledgable ponypeople here :D
By "the hair looks Greek" - do you mean with the sort of boxy forelock, or is there another way to also tell Greek pony hair? o:
Also, I remember you from the old MLPA! ^-^ So good to see you both again and be back <3
