Reporting income to irs? What?
« on: December 29, 2013, 06:10:46 AM »
I found a Night Glider in a lot and asked the seller if they would consider selling it by itself and they responded that they have to sell in lots so they don't have to pay the IRS.

I may be missing something here. What? Wouldn't you have to report ANY income to the IRS? I'm just confused.

Darn too. I really wanted her but cannot afford the lot. :/

I think the seller was trying to find a polite way to tell you that if you wanted the pony, you should have bid on the lot.  If they don't want to exceed 10,000 transactions in a year, that's their choice.  Good for them for sticking to the Ebay terms of the sale.

If you know Nightglider goes for a certain amount, why not save up that money and buy her when you can find a BIN listing rather than skim through lots and ask sellers to end their listings early for you?  Seems a lot easier!   :(

Did the auction have any bids or watchers? :(  I guess you can't know if people bookmark rather than "watch" but nevertheless... we'll find out if someone wins it and brags about their purchase!  :D

Just a FYI, it's a little frowned upon in this community to randomly ask sellers to remove a pony from an active listing. It's also a reportable offense on eBay if there are currently bids on the lot. I probably wouldn't let folks know you are doing that

As far as the IRS, I think LBS is right. She was finding a polite way to tell you No.

I wasn't aware of that policy. I didn't think the IRS was involved which is what my question is really about. Do you have to report eBay sales of a certain amount? I don't do my taxes do I wouldn't know (not that I've ever sold enough to do so and my parents handle it).
I asked if they would consider it, I tried to make that polite but I may have came across badly.

I was polite in my response as well. Thanks guys. :)

Edit: I wasn't exactly looking through lots for her, she just happened to be in one. I was actually looking at Galaxy at the time (no ng on eBay right now). Thanks again guys! I sent a note to the seller to apologize.
