Oooooo! I want to help! Are you thinking about shopping online? If so I suggest ModCloth. They have lots of different styles and price ranges plus people give reviews and share pictures of themselves wearing the items so you can see how things fit on different body shapes.http://www.modcloth.com

Good luck finding a dress! I would try and help, but I don't have much dress sense. I maybe an artist, but I can't match more than blue-on-blue-on-blue or grey-on-grey and the like.
I'm not sure how "curvy" curvy is, but this is my go-to site for dresses http://www.citychiconline.com/dresses.html I have a couple from them and they are gorgeous, great quality, and wonderful fit.
I just got an awesome dress for my husband's work Christmas party - it was cocktail attire. It's from the Banana Republic factory story. It's a wine-colored sheath that has a bit of stretch (so it gives you a nice shape, yet isn't completely skin tight). And it has a lace overlay (which is wine colored as well), so while it gives it a bit of a fancier touch, you could still wear it for other nice occasions (in my case, I still wanted a dress I could wear to church). It's sleeveless, but you can pair it with a cardigan and boots for the winter, then in the spring just have nice heels.
