Do baby ponies have dry hair more often?
« on: November 29, 2013, 04:06:15 PM »
Pretty much all my g1 babies, all different from different people have some degree of dry hair. Is this a coincidence or something the baby ponies have more often?

Maybe a coincidence mine all seem okay except for Bunkie she is pretty dry & Teeny Tiny Little Giggles their hair just goes weird its soft but just weird dunno how to describe it, its like fluff I guess, I thought it was just an odd one like that but then I got another one & it was similar but not as bad as my first :p

Which ones of yours have the dry hair?

My Baby Up Up & Away's hair was pretty dry before I washed and conditioned it. It's still somewhat dry, but not as much as before.

I think it depends on the baby.  Baby Moondancer and Baby Glory usually have soft silky hair, even if there bodies show the signs of lots of play.  For some reason the hair used on them just seems to resist frizz.  But the fancy pants babies, for me at least, seem to be more prone to frizz.

I was actually just getting ready to start a topic asking what the deal with G3 babies hair is because practically every one of those I find has awful hair.  Poor babies!

To answer generally :P No I don't think so - I don't think baby ponies in general have poorer quality hair than adult ponies. Or I certainly have never noticed a set pattern. However, I do agree that some ponies specifically or some colours or the way some hair is treated [factory] do have more problems than others. It sounds as though you may have encountered some of this ponies along the way! I am sorry :( You can try baby oil or conditioner treatments to try and fix them up!

I agree about baby fifi! I can't find one with good hair either!

My fancy pants also have dry hair with exception of dots and hearts and glider.

Baby sweet tooth and up up and away too!

I think the babies with curly hair are more prone to dryness. Because all the ones we've listed have/had curly hair.

Add to the list:
Speckles and bunkie
Teeny tiny babies
Beach comber
Tiny bubbles
Sundance
Shady
Crumpet
Surf rider
Squirmy
Wiggles
Shaggy
Tap dance
Blossom

I think part of the problem might be hair length. On adult ponies with long hair, even if the bottom 1-2cm are dry, that still leaves them with an overall silky hair, whereas for babies, that would be most of their hair :(
But yes, I have definitely noticed that some babies have amazing hair no matter what they went through but some just seem to always end up with stiff hair.

Thats a good thought Vintergatan - perhaps the perception comes from baby hair being so much shorter? And I completely agree its a curly hair thing - the adult ponies which always seem to have issues tend to have  been ponies with factory curl [probably due to the treatment the hair got in factory to get the curl].
