Gulf Coast Ponies - Are you okay?
« on: April 30, 2014, 01:29:28 AM »
I am currently in one of the few spots of Pensacola, Fl that is not flooded.

I'm just really worried about those of us on the gulf coast.  We've gotten nearly 24inches of rain in 24hrs.  It's crazy.  There's sections of the city that are under several feet of water, and the rain is not supposed to let up for at least another hour and a half, maybe until 8am.  It's 3:30am right now.

I'm very grateful for the spot I picked to live in Pensacola.  I'm only two miles from the water ( if even ) but I'm on a bit of a plateau off of the bluffs, and so I'm at the highest point in the area, so the water keeps leaving.  We've had some minor, minor power outages and brief at that, and I believe our water may be out.  ( We've lost about 50% of pressure ) so will likely be boiling water, but I am likely one of the few people who can actually see the asphalt of my parking lot!

I am just hoping all my fellow Gulfcoast people are okay as well!

Let us know!

We are ok here, not sure about the rest of the city yet though. Sorta afraid to turn on the news this morning after the nightmare that was the last 36 hours.

We're OK here around Mobile, AL, but a couple sinkholes opened up and swallowed cars. My gravel driveway washed away, though :(

Have you been out yet to see what things look like around town? From what I can tell downtown is a mess but I can't get much on anywhere else. We need to run some errands in the mall area but I'm not entirely sure it's worth attempting.

I just texted Princessmaker and she is ok, although the town is pretty flooded and had some close calls with tornadoes. So it seems like this hit quite a large swath- considering she is in NC!

I have not been to the downtown area or anywhere in the eastern part of town. I live in Wilmer and have just been through West Mobile. My cousin lives in the Midtown area and reports a big sinkhole and part of her road is gone :/ If your errands can wait I'd give it a few days. While the ground is so saturated more sinkholes may open up. Plus the malls were built on top of a swamp and that area is really unstable.

Editing to add: Just found out that 4 animals at the Gulf Coast zoo died in the flood. So sad! Animals were moved to high ground but the flood waters were way beyond what was expected.

Glad to hear that so far everyone is okay.

My work place is okay, and I get to go to work tonight.  Yay, not yay.

Scenic Highway in Pensacola is out.  It's awful.  Dog Track Road is also out as is parts of Johnson Ave.  I've heard Creighton Rd is really bad too, but I don't know where.  Old Correy Field Road is messed up as well, bridge out.  Worried about that last one big time, that's where my dance teacher lives.  So worried!

Waters are receding in some areas, most of the area I live in is OK.  I will know a bit more when I go to work.  We picked up a couple things for grocery, but we're not too worried about that.  Our water pressure has come back, but I'm still boiling our water just to be on the safe side.  Pensacola water is so bad as it is.

Yes, they lost my beloved Maras. I've been crying since I found out this morning. I was hoping to go see them in a month.

We managed to make our errands and that area isn't in too bad of shape thankfully.

I live around there as well. On Monday I ended up waking up at 2am because the weather alarm went off on my phone. On Tuesday, school ended up being let at early at 12:45. These past 2 days have just been a nightmare.  :(
I hope everyone is ok!   :)
