The problem of doubles...
« on: November 14, 2013, 08:04:07 AM »
I now totally get it. I have *cough* somehow accumulated doubles of many of my favorite ponies. I don't want to sell either because in terms of condition none are perfect and they each have their merits. I don't want a collection of perfect ponies anyway, as too much expense and responsibility. I currently have nowhere to display my collection and cannot justify keeping doubles. So, how on earth do I choose between them?! How do you choose between them?xo

You dont choose...you keep them all of course :P

When sorting things out a couple of months ago...I discovered I had 7 Hopscotches. And I cant seem to part with a single one. :P

However for other ponies as long as there is not a clear variance [colour/manufacture] I simply keep the nicest one and sell/trade the others away. Not saying how long it actually takes me to put those doubles up for sale or that on occasion they dont sneak back on to the shelves of course. :P

It is choosing the nicest one that I'm finding so hard. For example, I have a Tutti Fruitti with fading to pink symbols on DS and NDS, otherwise perfect. I have another with small scratches on DS symbol, cheek and a small amount of fading of pink part of DS symbol, otherwise perfect. How do I choose? I have 3 Snowflakes, 2 Gypsys, 2 Hopscotches, 3 Majestys, 2 Bubbles, 3 Seashells.

I have certain ponies that I don't care if I have 100 of the same pony ;) But if you don't want to keep them, decide which flaw bugs you the most and let that one go. Goodluck!

Love it! Im telling my self the same dang thing!

I have a shelf where my doubles are sitting and it keeps growing and growing & for the life of me I cant let go. I don't even want to give them a spa, because the nicer they get I will want to keep them more lol. We can say hoarder for me lol.
Glitter for everyone! :fireworks:

I keep all my doubles, triples and whatever number they are because they are my trophies! I don't buy on eBay so when I find them at antique shops, garage sales and thrift stores I buy them and keep them. I don't sell or trade them either because there is always a slight difference in the ponies.

Keep the one in the condition that you like the best and move on with your life.  That's how I keep from going nuts obsessing over which ones to keep.

Same!  Sometimes I can't buy lots with ponies I already have in them because I know I won't be able to let them go.

Same here. I really don't keep many duplicates in my herd. I think I have one of pony bride the original one. The rest I traded off to other members over the past years.

Pretty much this. When I get a double of a character, with some exceptions, I keep the version/variant I like most and attempt to sell the rest. It's more frustrating for me to try to figure out where to put all the doubles (I don't see the point in having them if they will only be stored in a box) than to figure out which one I wanna keep most.

The only "problem" I have with doubles is that they spawn triples and quadruples.

Pretty much what FarDreamer says :)

If you have 2 ponies in identical condition - i.e. different issues but both "good" you simply need to decide what you prefer? If one has a mane trim and the other a pen mark on her side - which is more important to you? No marks or perfect hair? And go with that. It really is a matter of just going with which pony is going to make you proudest on display and which you prefer to look at.
