POSSIBLE SCAMMER ALERT!!
« on: October 23, 2013, 11:12:31 PM »
:whoa:  I have an 'Wnted' on gumtree and recieved what seemed to be a genuine reply from a member called Sarah "Hi if you have no luck locally i have a box full of them and bits my mum kept from when i was a kid in 80's"
I asked her where she was, Bristol, and said that if i had a car i wold have had them all! To which she relied
"Ah well im happy to send them if you change your mind x"
immediately the warnning lights came on but only very dimly... Cut a long story short I ask would it possible for a picture and she the one attached to this...
It wasnt until I mentioned paying via PayPal when all the signs became clear,
"Morning thanks for your address il get them off to you today. I dont use paypal sorry can you do a transfer if i send you my details across?"
I make act like an idiot but I can you im really, I can prove it too - a little research goes a long way  :work: I decided to "google image search" the pici she had sent me. Thats confirmed what i what allready thought, the pic was on flkr Titled "Job lot of ponies i just bought with my pocket money" and dated 2011.

The worst thing about it is that she only wanted £20 for the lot including postage !!

wow, yes, that definitely sounds off :S:S she would basically be giving them away for free, since the postage would probably be a big chink of that price!

Hmmm. Someone should ask for detail pics of one of the ponies and see what she says.

:work: Reall 'hard working' Scammers would have just found another picture by image searching for one, its not hard and is what i usually do when i want to look up/at a specific pony or pony names - its easier to do it that way sometimes than it is looking through a web site.
:haha: I laugh about it now mainly because of the pure lack of intelligence behind the attempted scam...
The first thing she said after I told her i cant do bank transfers with my account was
"Ok how did you want to do this then would you prefer to send me a cheque or I am with Natwest if you have one local? Or did you want to leave it? x"
:duh:  REALLY!!!  Surely she must have worked out by that point she'd been rumbled - I mean come on (i apologise now if anyone has done what im aboout to say) who's gonna send a cheque in the post to a total stranger on their 'good word -no- good email' that they'll send you a huge parcell!! Via special next delivery may I add?!?!

I then spent 3-4 hrs thinking about what to say next, mmm should i be witty and inform her of what an idiot she is should i just send the word "RUMBLED" and see what she has to say, or maybe tell her to expect a visit from the coppers cos i'd given them her details mmm
I ended up saying "I'll have to leave it, Im not allowed a cheque book ive got a Bad credit rating. Oh its a shame but thanks any way." (how boring was that!!)
to which she replied AGAIN, one more try at being dumb...
"Ah ok hun no problem, I am with Natwest if you maybe have one local and you wanted to just pay in at branch if you change your mind otherwise good luck in your search. Thanks"
LOL Again  :duh:
