G3 McDonalds customs - to sculpt or rehair?

I'm trying to decide whether to sculpt a mane on this McD pony, or behead it and rehair. Is there a way to make a tail hole for rehairing? I'm afraid to just start cutting/piercing and ruin a pony.

This is my first McD custom, so which do you guys think would be better? Rehairing (and re-tailing?), or sculpting a mane onto it. Can a McD pony be baked with the clay like G1s?

You can carve/cut off the tail and drill a hole for a tail. It's a lot of work but can be done. You can rehair the head as usual.
So it's up to you.
I've only done one and not sure if I have pics on here but I'll check.

she's pretty! how long did it take you to get the plastic tail cut off?

Oh, I don't remember, sorry. I made her years ago.
I believe I used an exacto knife and maybe even sand paper once the tail was off. It took awhile, especially since it was my first time. But I know rushing would've ended up in me being sliced up or the pony ruined so I took my time.
I have many McD ponies and want to make some more customs sometime but just haven't gotten around to it.

Sorry I can't be of much help, but wow that custom is beautiful!! I love the size of McD ponies, but their half sculpted mane or tail always bothers me. Fully brushable hair like this all the way, and OP if you decide to give your pony a matching mane and tail like this I'll be sure to keep an eye out for her!

I am interested in this as well..... Currently all I have done is rehairing the head and painting the tail...

I greatly prefer to remove the plastic tail and put in a real one. I've only made a few McD customs but that's how I generally do it. As annoying as it is to get the tail carved off, I like the final look.

That said, I have done one sculpted McD pony before and am currently working on another. This one I didn't keep the original tail, I partially carved it and sculpted over it so it would match the mane.

The one I'm working on now I've left the original tail. But the hard part for me is getting the sculpted mane to be the same style as the tail so they don't look mismatched. Both options have their challenges!

I'm way too lazy to carve off the tail, so I prefer doing sculpted hair with these.
