ID andPC needed on a Barbie, PC on Big Jim doll
« on: September 10, 2013, 03:01:34 PM »
Found these two while flea marketing a couple weeks ago and hoping for some help:)

First I need an ID and PC on this gal:

She has Mattel 1966 Taiwan on her bum, no markings on head. She has a swivel waist and non bendable arms and legs. Her ears are not pierced. I'm guessing she's a late 70's/early 80's Barbie.
She has severe chew marks on both hands and it looks like someone got rid of some of the damage on the left one by trimming it off. Her right upper arm has a bite mark. Her face-up is nice, her lips look a little thinly painted but it may have been that way. Hair is thick with no missing plugs.

Next I'm hoping for a PC on Big Jim, a 10"action doll released in the 70's by Mattel:

He's in nice condition with the exception of his head; the "rubs" on the front have been scraped off (like someone rubbed his head against cement or something). The rub to the back of his head is playwear. The button on his back is for the karate chop action (right arm) but it gets stuck and you have to move his arm back into position. Elbow and Knee joints hold poses.

Outfits:
Basketball: shoes MIP but look to have stains on them. Socks have slightly yellowed
Baseball: Socks are lightly yellowed. Missing cap and baseball
Karate: pale yellow stains on back of shirt, I'm assuming it's from the glue that held it in package
Soccer: shirt has stains, shorts' elastic has stretched out. Socks are slightly yellowed. Soccer ball has melt spots (overall bad shape)

Any help is appreciated! Thanks for looking!

She could be a My First Barbie from the early 80s as they had non-bending harder plastic legs to make it easier for smaller children to dress them. I am on my phone so can't link any pictures the eyebrows and design in the eyes make me fairly confident she's the one that came in the yellow outfit.  With chew marks and being nude she's probably not worth much. MIB she's gone between $10-30 and out of box but minty she's gone for $6 lately. Nude Barbies from the 80s are rarely worth much at all. She's a cutie though! I've always loved her face. Can't help with the others though. :)

You're welcome! :D so many 80s Barbies look alike without their clothes but luckily her legs were a great clue. She had a super cute yellow outfit I always wished I had in human size haha

I don't know if I can give you an accurate price on Big Jim, but I do know that he somewhat rare and hard to find.  Your best bet would be to put him on ebay.  Do those outfit and accessories belong to the Big Jim line as well?  If they do, I would start the lot on ebay at $24.99 and see where it goes.

Yep, the outfits arr Jim's:)  Thank you for the suggestion on the starting price DDW! Most of the Big Jim stuff I've found are nude dolls or ones that came with their original outfit and the prices are all over the place >_<  I haven't found any of the fashion packs.

Do you think it would be better to sell as a lot or sell the outfits separate?

I would sell as a lot, personally, because I'm not very familiar with the line.  If you have the patience to piece it all out, you may be able to get a bit more.  With the smaller doll lines (LLL, Moondreamers, etc), I like to collect pieces and dolls for awhile, then put the whole lot up for auction and start over with a new bag.  It's quicker to get rid of the items, and you do usually get a better price.

I sold a Big Jim and I think a Big John doll lot about 2 years ago, and even though all of the items had a smoky smell to them, it ended at over $70.  I think Big John is harder to find, so that may have been part of the price.  I did not have any extra outfits other than what was actually on the dolls (or action figures, lol).  You really can never tell with these things when they'll go high and when they'll close at the starting price.  That's one of the reasons I suggested the $24.99.  I'm not sure what you paid, but that's a price I'd feel ok selling at.   :)

Thanks again! I originally bought him to be my Sindy's boyfriend but his head is too teeny tiny compared to hers lol. It's nice to know he's worth something!
