Cleaning Advice Needed!
« on: August 29, 2013, 02:23:02 PM »
I just got my first So Soft pony today; Magic Star. She's in need of some cleaning, though, and as I have no experience with So Softs I thought I'd ask you guys' advice before I start. I don't want to accidentally do something that will damage her.

I also got a birthflower pony with curly hair. Would that be factory curls, or did her previous owner curl the hair? She's June Rose, if that matters. Should I take any special cleaning measures with her hair to keep the curls?

I'd also love a PC on these two girls, if anyone happens to know.  ^.^ I haven't cleaned them yet, so I can't say for sure what condition they'll clean up to, but they look to be in decent played-with condition.

The curls on June Rose will be original - most of them have a gorgeous factory curl. I think its actually what makes them so cute. She will run $8-10 - she can go up or down mainly depending on how white she is in colour as well as how curly her hair has remained.

There is a wide range of cleaning options for So Softs. The main problem in giving a straight out answer is due to the glue holding the flocking on. If the glue has not broken down then you can give her a normal wash using very warm water and oxy if you wish or just a general scrub over. However if the glue is in any way breaking down then even cold water and a toothbrush can remove her flocking. Personally I like to assume that the glue is an issue and work from there.

Soak her with tepid water and then massage with your finger tips into her coat a shampoo or body wash or similar soap product - nothing too aggressive. Move in circles as you wash it in. And then rinse her. Repeat if required. And test this under a back hoot first to make sure her flocking is not too delicate.

Its not going to get her as shiny and new as an oxy soak or some more astringent cleaners but for me at least I would rather have her still flocked and a little less bright than missing flocking. :)

As for price in nice condition $8 for Magic Star.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

If the glue is pretty delicate there's also the option of deflocking. I like to get the really mangey so softs and remove the flocking and make 'em look pretty again.
