BAB ponies - hair problem
« on: August 25, 2013, 05:20:22 PM »
I have an BAB Rainbow Dash and her hair is frizzy- It was a tangled mess but I got the tangles out but her hair is still frizzy. I know that with the vinyl ponies one can De-frizz by using the lowest setting on a flat iron but I'm afraid that would singe the plush - how could I get the frizz out without harming the hair or the plush. Anyone else have this issue?

I'm curious as well. What stopped me from getting a Twilight was fear that the hair would tangle and frizz beyond repair (especially since she would most definitely live on my bed). If there is a way to ensure that their hair can be preserved or restored easily, I would definitely take a trip to BAB for her and others.

If I know one thing for sure just from having curly hair myself is that you can't comb it unless it is wet, or it will turn into a big frizzy fro! This kinda defeats the purpose of these ponies having brushable hair. Finger combing is always fine but I didn't dare waste my money buying my pinkie a comb when I got her just for that reason.

I would like to imagine that like normal pony hair, the lowest setting on a curling iron or straight iron will help fix the friz, but I'm pretty sure this hair is a poorer quality than the normal toy hair.

As others have said, unfortunately hair can get very frizzy if it is brushed when dry or when over brushed with a plastic brush/comb. So you do need to get it wet to comb it and ideally use a metal comb. However, because you get the hair wet does not mean you have to get the plush wet. It just means you need to be clever and careful with how you wash it. Saran wrapping the pony in order to protect her body and leaving just her hair uncovered is a useful starting point.

I would wash and condition the hair to start with - you can do 3/4 of the length to start with and see if it works. Soak the hair over night and also wrapped up in saran wrap.

G1 plush hair is such that you can use a regular flat iron on it. I am not certain on the BAB plush. You could remove a handful of threads of hair from her tail however and test a flat iron on it. If the hair is wet and you use the lowest heat possible you should be fine. As to avoid singing the plush - just dont put the flat iron near it and again perhaps only flat iron an inch from the root of the hair.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi
