Correcting yellowing of a colored pony
« on: August 29, 2013, 03:37:53 PM »
I have a blue G1 pony with yellowed ear tips and was hoping someone could tell me how best to correct it.
I found tutorials on how to whiten yellowed ponies but since my pony isn't white I don't think it would work.
Will sunfading work or will that fade my pony as well? Or should I just try Oxyclean or something like that?
The rest of the body is in really good shape color wise its only the ear tips that have yellowing.

Ooh he's handsome! And valuable? Not one I've tried unfortunately. I tried sunfading on Wind Whistler (below) because she was 99p and in a shocking state. It happened to work very well. Unless it's very noticeable I wouldn't bother. I think sunfading is great on otherwise awful ponies but we aren't sure what problems it might cause in the long run (I'm thinking age spots and leaking plasticiser/hardening of pony but who knows).

Maybe try magic eraser first? Worth getting off amazon/ebay for ponies. Might be an equivalent UK product in Pound Land. I think it just works by micro abrasion. Best of luck!

Yeah, I saw your wind Whistler. Amazing job on her by the way! Since Tux is a darker blue I just wasn't sure if it would work. I used Magic Eraser already but didn't really scrub at his ears. Maybe I'll try that again.
Thanks! :)

I've sunfaded yellowed dark ponies like Bowtie and that worked well, but that was all-over yellowed from mildew stain. I don't think it will work on the discoloring that happens to the ears. I don't know what causes that, but it's something I find a lot harder to get out.

The color is leaching from the plastic...

Hmm, I would think if it was color leaching from the plastic that it would be all over or at least in other places besides the ear tips. The rest of his body is a nice even blue.
