G3 ponies and G3 cartoons - any advice or recommendations?
« on: August 06, 2013, 10:24:27 PM »
Hello pony fans! I have mostly G1s and G4s in my collection (and a couple of G2s), but I wanted to start collecting some G3 ponies. Since I know practically nothing about G3s, I was wondering if you had any advice as to which ponies I should keep my eye out for. Are there any main ponies and/or fun ponies you would recommend? Also, are there any G3 shows, cartoons and/or movies you would recommend? I'd like to get to know something new to me. Many Thanks!  :)

Some of the G3 cartoons are actually really fun, but I find myself having to flick my girly switch in order to get into the right mindset. I'd check out A Very Pony Place and The Princess Promenade. Hard to go wrong with A Very Minty Christmas, as well! I also loved A Charming Birthday.

If you like Friendship is Magic, have fun listening for a couple familiar voice actresses! :P

If you dare to delve into 3.5, I actually thought Twinkle Wish Adventure was quite good.

A Very Minty Christmas is a must see if you are going to watch G3 :)

As for which ponies to collect, I always suggest you go with what catches your fancy. I would suggest going though a site like strawberryreef where she has all the ponies pictured by colour together on each page. See which ones you think are the prettiest and go in search of those.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

A Very Minty Christmas, The Princess Promenade, and The Runaway Rainbow are probably the solidest. A Very Pony Place is also pretty good, but can suffer from pacing issues... all the Storybelle and Gossamer scenes just feel like so much padding. The really short stuff like Pinkie Pie's Ladybug Jamboree can be skipped with impunity.

A Very Charming Birthday has a lot of Early Installment Weirdness going on, in that fully two-thirds of its main characters never show up again, and a lot of the ponies it makes out as being major ponies in general hardly end up being important at all. Also the art style is a bit different.

i have so many opinions about all of them and trying to pick out the solidest is hard

Ah, the G3 ponies have lovely colour schemes!
Going into G3 colllecting it helps to be aware that there are mostly earthlings, some pegasi and just a handful of unicorns. There are also many exclusives that were only given out at fairs.
http://www.strawberryreef.com/ is really helpful. Good luck!

Edit: As for the series I only ever had the Butterfly Island DVD. It's cute.
I'm looking to buy Port-o-Bella. Please email me.

I love the g3 ponies. I think they have the most realistic features to horses, and they have beautiful poses and colors!

I have a g3 list with photos showing all the variants of each one, and they are all sorted by color too if you'd like.

Many thanks for the info and the sites!
I will take the time to look at them more closely - hours of fun :)
While looking at some pics, I realized that I once had three G3 ponies: Bumblesweet, Cloud Climber & Paradise Palm. I think I might have given away the cardboard box I put them in :(
Have a good week and thanks again! I'm sure I'll get to have some favorites ;)

A good thing about G3's is that you can usually find them really cheap ;) I think there are many beautiful G3's,depending on what you like, but I think the other posters have got you covered on that :P Some of my favourites are Periwinkle,Twinkle Hope,Minty & Sunny Daze.
