Yea, that was at the MLPfair, saw her whole discussion in person.

Not sure if it's in that video  you linked but she also talked about how MLP might not have even come into being because when she brought the idea up before Hasbro head honchos, they said little girls didn't want ponies, little girls liked to cook, clean and iron....

Her original concept idea for MLP was to have them look like real horses. They were not going to be brightly colored but more realistic. So there would have been no Uni's, Pegs, magic or bright colors in the original concept idea for MLP.

Another person at Hasbro (sorry Bonnie shared the persons name but I don't remember) Suggested to Bonnie that there be pinks and purples and such.

Probably doesn't own a stolen piece of the Taj Mahal.

I do believe she said her boss's wife suggested the crazy colors.

What I find interesting is that she was asked "what do you think of bronies?" and she answered about little boys and collectors of all genders, as well as her original idea of ponies for everyone, but not about bronies. Can someone confirm if she knows what the brony fandom specifically is? She didn't seem to...

Interesting. As a kid I pretended each pony was actually a horse. And a specific breed, the colors did nothing for me. Actually they annoyed me. But I was more into Hot Wheels and GI Joe not MLP.  MLP was the one exception towards more girl themed toys.

Well Bonnie might have wanted the toyline to appeal to all genders-  but Hasbro may have had other ideas...

I will admit that the colored ponies did appeal to me as a kid.  I had that big plastic one that was brown (My Pretty Pony or something?) -  And I didn't like her quite so well as my Bow Tie, Medly, Firefly, and Applejack ponies...
