Help using the USPS postage calculator?
« on: August 05, 2013, 10:16:33 AM »
I want to make sure I'm calculating shipping correctly. I'm sending items in padded envelopes, but not flat rate envelopes. Do I select letter, large envelope, or package? I've been assuming large envelope because they're padded?

Once it calculates, is the first-class mail large envelope the shipping price I'm looking for?

Silly questions, I know, but I want to get this right.

If you're shipping a rigid object in the padded envelope, you want to select package. And from there it's up to you if you want to go first class or priority. Priority is for packages over 13 oz.

So ponies and stuff get package prices, not envelope prices? Ahh, okay, the shipping prices I'm seeing now make a lot more sense. Thank you bluerose!

I always select Large Envelope then The Large Envelope contains items that cause more than 1/4 inch variation in thickness. It is a package price because of the thickness. Printing the postage online is definitely the way to go! :)

Yeah, I only use envelopes for things that are in manila envelopes, etc. Haven't had a package sent back yet!
