Cat costume- help!
« on: July 26, 2013, 08:01:18 AM »
Okay, so this shouldn't be so hard to find. But I figure on a collector's board someone can help me out. Briar wants to be a cat for halloween. Sounds easy, right? The thing is she was to be a CAT. Not a ballerina cat, or just the ears and tail from a cat. She wants a full body SOFT furry cat costume, with hood, tail and paws. Why is this so hard to find?? I would be thrilled to commission someone, but don't know how to go about finding someone I would trust to do it. I'm not on DA. She's size 4 or 4t. I don't think she care too much what color but blue (yes, blue) would be her preference.  :|

Can you wonderful pony people help a slug with a cat?? :slug: :kitty:

I was a cat many times as a kid. My mom always made my costume, but you don't have to be a sewer to do it.

Sweat pants, sweat shirt with drawstring hood, mittens.

Buy fur fabric blocks from craft store. Cut into a belly shape and tacky glue to sweat shirt.  Glue fur to back of mittens. Make ears out of fur hand stitch to hood.  Use a boa for the tail.  Unless you want to cut the tail out of the fur and glue it together.

For extra touches glue thin boa to the cuffs of your sleeves and pant legs.
Take pink felt and glue circles into the mittens for the paw and triangles into the front of the ears.

My mom made my sister into a really fluffy cat one year by sewing a simple hood out of white fur material and a vest out of the same but that might be getting more complicated.

We have furries here on the arena, perhaps they can help? I know Bladespark makes amazing fursuits, but that's getting into the realm of $$$$$$$$$$

This is kind of what she wants! A fursuit, but for a little kid, and with no face.

I need to look through the links and see if you guys are finding something I'm not! Last year she was a gray kitty, but the costume wasn't SOFT. It was made of faux fur, but it bothered her to wear it because it was scratchy.

Thanks for all the help so far!

I totally would love to do this. I showed her what I had in mind and it wasn't what she meant, lol. I don't normally cater to her like this, but I honestly think she would wear it maaaaaaany more times than just halloween. She has pretended to be a cat since she could say the word meow. I figure she's only little once and if she wants to wear a cat costume, this is the time it will be socially acceptable, heh.

This one is lined in plastic. They don't say that in the details, but we ordered it and sent it back. Why line it in plastic?!

This looks like they type of fabric you need and her listing says one was made for a 4 year old. Maybe she can tell you who made it.

I know about scratchy!  You might have to have her wear something like a full body leotard to prevent itching when you wear the furry costume.

And it all depends on how furry she wants to be. You can probably find someone to make a soft but not fur furry costume.

This person has a pink bunny that is using soft material.  She also has this cheeta costume. She might be able to make the cheetah costume in other fabrics such as something like used in the bunny costume. It maybe blue or cat colored.

Just to clarify, this wasn't normal faux fur scratchy, this had something else going on. It felt like it had fabric glue on some seams.

She might be interested in a Kigurumi :) They are a Japanese animal pajama :) They come in a variety of animals including kitties. They are super comfy and I often wear mine to bed xD They come in a lightweight cotton material or a fleece material. They come in children's sizes and can be found on EBay or some specialty websites :)

A Kigurumi sounds like a good idea! Then she could even go off to bed in her costume after trick or treating!

Oh, that Kigurumi sounds like an awesome idea.  If its meant ot sleep in, it has to be soft enough to not irritate her <3

It's kind of ridiculous how cat crazy they are. :kitty:

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I really appreciate it!
