Variant Flutter Lily?
« on: July 20, 2013, 04:50:04 PM »
I have two Lilys and I noticed one of them is rather odd looking. The most obvious thing is her body color, she seems muted compare to an "ordinary" Lily. Also, her body seems to be shaped slightly differently. The other really noticeable difference is her eyes. They are shaped differently. The only suggestion I have for her body color (and possibly her shape) is how she was stored over the years, but what would account for her eyes? They don't look like "regular" Flutter eyes to me. Any suggestions?

The body could be explained as possible sunfading, perhaps? Also I know that sometimes factories had different paints at different times, so that could be it? Did Lily come in different releases? That could explain her different eyes and slight different body shape.

Yes, I believe Lily was released with two different heads, the "big" one and the regular one. Not sure on the years, though.
I'll put something here some time

The difference between the two is that one was released as part of the 'first' set, and the other was part of the 'second' set. (The second set being released a year after the first, and the second one came with the 'newer' style of flutter wings). I don't recall if the 'big eye' version was the first or second though.

I think some of the later released flutters had a different head mold, too--aren't some of them wider-faced than others?

One is the known as the "fat-head version"  :P  It's because Hasbro remade the mold for the re-release of the flutter ponies. My Rose dust is like this too.
Formally known as "BabySpicyMustard"

I always thought the fat head ones were the European versions. I don't really know though.

clones, your "oddball" indeed is the big head version. Here's a plenty informative thread on the Flutter molds. It appears that they are neither "later releases" nor "European versions," simply different molds - perhaps from different factories.

Yes as others have said there is a standard difference - "fat" head and "thin" head versions of the release. Flutters are rather confusing as the 2 different poses have 2 different releases; but for one pose this is just seen by the head size and in the other pose its more distinct because there is a mould date difference on the hooves.

I just may have learnt something new today... Could you elaborate? It appears that all my Flutters relevant to this thread are stamped 1986 (incl. Rosedust pose w/both fat and thin head, Honeysuckle pose w/thin head). I know there exist 1985 ones but how does it actually correlate, if at all, with "fat-headedness?"

Post Merge: July 22, 2013, 03:24:13 AM

Also, all of my Rosedust (either version) and Honeysuckle pose ponies have "closed" wing tabs. Am I right to believe that the second release got the "open" wing tabs of the 2nd set?
