G1 Mane/tail length? And some other questions
« on: July 09, 2013, 11:03:43 AM »
So I recently got my hands on a few G1s and I'm working on fixing them up... unfortunately it looks like all of them have had mane cuts.

I guess my first question should be, should I rehair them at all? They don't have mohawks but their manes are definitely shorter than they should be. And if I do, what are the original mane and tail lengths? (they're all Y2 ponies) One of the ponies is Medley, and I know there was a long-haired version of her. Is there a way to tell if she was a short or long haired version?

Medley's texture is also a little weird. She doesn't feel as smooth as the others and if I look closely, the color looks kind of like 'noise' in a bad photo. Should this concern me?

I think that's it for now. I'll update this post if I think of anything else.

The long haired version of Medley has curly hair ;)

I'm wondering if Medley has pindot? Can you post a close up pic? :)

I agree with Party a picture of the Medley would help but it does sound like in grained dirt.

As to the hair - its your call. Chopped hair or rehair is not a massive price difference in value. So its more what you are going to aesthetically prefer on display.

There is a distinct body colour difference between the long hair and short hair Medley. It will be easy to tell which one she is in your picture.

It does look sort of like pindot, but the 'dirt' is just a darker color of her body. I'm nervous it's an early sign of the plastic breaking down or something. I can't get a good picture of the dots, sadly.

Medley herself is much more willing to oblige:

She's a bit greener IRL, however.

Here's a pic long haired/short haired comparison ponies...
All my medleys have greyish tinge to their bodies. Rehairing and length can be totally up to you! I've always been a big fan of going longer.
I see no big difference in body color on long vs short hair medley...
Good luck with whatever you choose to do. :o)

Ooh, I didn't know Bowtie and AJ had long haired versions. Makes me want a G1 Applejack even more.

So can anyone give me a measurement of typical G1 manes and tails? I want to make them look original as possible.

She looks like the short hair version of Medley in that colour :) Mane lengths can vary slightly pose to pose - so which ponies exactly is it you need to know about?

I have Sunbeam, Lemon Drop, and Bubbles. Plus Medley, of course. :)

All those girls have a kind of standard length - so 14-15cm in their tail and 8-8.5cm in their mane. There is a little variation depending on how a tail is set in its washer.
