Is there any market for hand-crocheted things?
« on: July 10, 2013, 10:41:47 AM »
I recently acquired a tote full of hand-crocheted (or maybe they're knitted... What's the difference?) dresser scarves, doilies, and purses/bags, and I was thinking I'd selling them. I have a few questions, though.

First; is there even a market for this kind of thing? And if there is, where's the best place to try and list them?

Second; how do I describe them? The full extent of my knowledge of them is they're made of yarn and they're colorful. XD Other than that, I have absolutely no clue.  Any pointers?

Third; they smell very smokey. I would, of course, mention the smell if I listed them for sale, but I was wondering if there was anything I can or should do to try and make them smell better.

Any tips or advice would be fantastic!

Do you have any pictures? There is a market. I'm no expert but I'd be happy to try helping you out. I'm at work right now, so i'll look more into it later. Feel free to pm me.

The difference is one is made using two needles, and the other uses a hook :) If you post some photos I should be able to tell you whether they are crotched or knitted as they look very different to anyone experienced in either or both crafts.

The most important thing would probably be to work out what fibres they're made from, especially as they smell of smoke and potential new owners will want to try and get rid of that. The best you can do not knowing what they're made of is carefully hand wash them in cold water; wool and other animal fibres tends to shrink and/or felt if thrown in the washing machine or washed roughly in hot water. If possible you could ask the previous owner what kind of yarn they used?
Idly searching for: loose, good condition G4 Blossomforth, Starbeam Twinkle, Plumsweet. TTM Celestia doll's wings Within UK or EU only, please.
Will also take in Pretty Pony Club (UK magazine) fakies.
