Sorted! ^.^

UPDATE: The seller was wonderful, has apologised since it was not actually her posting the dress and is sending me a £2.79 refund. She was extremely sweet about the situation so will not lose any stars from me. Truly a very good seller!

Original Post:
Great. So I purchased a dress which I am thrilled with. £6.99 postage. UK to UK. I know Next Day Delivery costs £6.75 on such items, so I paid it anyway. Hilariously, it was posted first class for only £3.00, and even the mailer envelope looks tatty and possibly reused? I'm really unhappy with being very overcharged, and have contacted them.
Will eBay refund the difference, since that is technically breaching the 'don't overcharge for postage' agreement?

*sigh*

I have no idea if they'll refund you... tends to happen a lot. I mean there are things like single G4 ponies that are saying they're from within my same state and the person has $20 for shipping charges... but I've never tried to get the difference back from eBay so I dunno! I wish I was more help!

Yeah I had a similar incident UK to Sweden, paid £10 for shipping which might roughly be the equivalent for signed parcels. But ponies arrived in my mailbox so not signed and postage said £3.60  :scared:

Currently waiting for a reply from the seller but I'm not likely to get one so... he/she will get a neg from me. £6 is more than what I paid for the ponies!

I am pretty sure ebay wont refund you, the only way you will get your money difference back is if the seller decides to refund you.

Ebay will not refund you in this case, from what I know.  Shipping is really all in the seller's hands, and there is no way of knowing what costs are involved in the process.

For example, a seller may use an independent insurance company for items they ship (something other than the insurance the postal system uses or offers), and so the seller may have actually used all your money for shipping, even though it looks otherwise.

The only thing you can do at this point is politely ask the seller for a refund, or if they decline and you are still upset, that is what the stars are for (though I don't recommend doing that to anyone).

Sorry you feel "ripped off," though.

Ah, ok thanks for your input everyone! Gah, nevermind, guess that you've got to think, do I want this dress that is no longer in stores so much that I'm willing to pay a bomb in postage. :sigh: I'm just glad to have such a wonderful dress! :D

I've had some nice sellers refund postage, but it was for multiple items that cost less than quoted.
I think it may still be worth asking, or at least asking to clarify what the costs were... i.e. the psotage, the packaging etc etc.

If nothing else it might just alert them that people are aware of costs and maybe in the future they will think twice about over charging (unlikely... but possible lol ^_^)

Glad that you are pleased with the item though - that's the main thing right :good:

As a seller, I encourage buyers to ask if they have a question about postage.  I have accidentally listed items with the wrong postage and will happily refund the overage.  It could always just be an honest mistake, especially by a newer seller.  Ebay tends to pre-fill postage based on what "most sellers" would do, but that can be way off and if the seller isn't paying attention it will show that crazy shipping.  If the postage looks ridiculous, just send them a message asking if what you are seeing is correct; you might just be doing a seller a favor if they didn't know and were wondering why their popular item isn't selling :)
