Pony Wear Selling & Cleaning Questions
« on: June 26, 2013, 09:19:28 PM »
So somehow I have amassed an entire bin of pony wear and accessories, even though I collect neither. XD I'm trying to get it organized to sell, but I have loads of questions about it. I tried searching the boards but didn't find the exact answers that I was looking for.

First, if I have complete sets should I sell them together, or should I sell all of the pieces separately? I also know I have some sets that are incomplete, for example, a set missing just one shoe. For the incomplete sets should I sell as much of the set together as I can, or just split it into separate pieces?

Second, some pieces that I have are a teeny bit grimy. How should I go about cleaning them? For instance: shoes. So, so many shoes. XD Should I put them in a container with dish soap and give them a good shake or something, or is there a better way of doing it? What about cleaning fabric pieces? I would figure I would have to hand wash them, but with what? Or do I just sell them "as is" and let the new owner figure it out?

I used to like to sell my pony wear in sets, until I like you accumulated a rather large tote of it. So now I started to piece some of it out. I think either way will work as there are folks who get lots that are just missing that one piece they need and don't want the whole set. Then there are folks who need the whole set so it works out in the end I think doing it both ways. I say if you have the complete set then sell it that way, if not piece it out.

As far as cleaning I like to use Oxy-Clean with a splash of detergent. The only thing I do not put anything that is bright in color for instance a couple things are the robe from Pony Royal or the dress from the designer collection, they will bleed from the Oxy. Those pieces I just like to use detergent but dish soap should work fine too.

There are probably others who have a different method but that is what works for me.

I agree with pony lady, you will have the same results either selling pieces separately or as a set.

Also I only hand wash pony wear. And very carefully, like no harsh scrubbing and a gentle detergent because sometimes the fabric can be very fragile.

like others have already said; gently washing by hand is what I do with my ponywear as well.

Also, with the selling: honestly, it is all up to you. Sometimes it might be better to piece it out as you could get a better deal on the items seperately. But for me I like to sell what I can together because I really do not have the time to sell small items individually. But on the other side, I am one of those who are just missing an item here and there - and I love sellers who sells thing not in set ;)

I agree you will get interest in it either way. As a buyer its helpful to find people selling individual items - I know I have completed a lot of pony wear by picking up the odd part here or there. However as a seller it can be a very painstaking task to individually split up pony wear and price each item - not just time consuming listing the items for sale but even perhaps posting individual items.

Personally I would initially offer them up as sets or as close to sets as you can get. Make the condition that if people are after certain parts then they can certainly ask you if you are willing to split them out. However, I would also price the completed set under the value of the individual items.

I use just a little colour fast hand wash detergent and hot water to clean pony wear - just like mini clothes :P My mum once washed the Pom Pom jumper in the washing machine though and it came out cleaner and with all stains removed - something I had struggled to do with oxy on it.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi
