missing the MOO
« on: June 16, 2013, 11:20:32 AM »
What do you do when your favorite social media site is unavailable?

I have had a character on Lambda MOO for over 14 years, and met most of my bestest friends on the site.
It's one of those things that's always around and I kind of take it for granted, so when it is shut down (for an indefinite time) I realise how important it is.

The place is like an old text adventure game, except most the people you meet there aren't scripted robots, they are other players like you. Sometimes whole media studies classes connect as guests and treat the place like a museum :) (I like messing with them, but in a nice way).

I hope it comes back soon.

I went through a period of depression when my main social network hub went south years ago.  However, through Facebook I've managed to get back in contact with a lot of my friends through the site.

I sorta know what that's like. Probably similar to when my favorite chatrooms closed.

it's sad when something you're used to having around suddenly disappears forever.
I'm hoping lambda will come back. It's in a server in a basement somewhere in Texas.
When it goes offline it usually means there have been power outages in the area, or someone tripped over a cable.

My first haunt was the CEA (Center for the Easily Amused) chat rooms. I met my first internet friends there, and even my ex, heh. I kept in contact with a few of them after the site was bought out but eventually those ties disappeared too. Every once in a while I still think about some people from there, especially when I see someone with a similar username.

It is sad when that happens. I had some really good times though :)

it's still unavailable, so I'll be bugging you guys for a while til it comes back :)
I'm alone all day for the next week because housemate is on holiday and am getting kind of antsy.

and I know one is not supposed to admit to being home alone, but housemate is a sword collector so I'm well armed :)
