Help! Head Re-Gluing Techniques
« on: June 01, 2013, 01:33:26 AM »
How do YOU re-glue heads?  I've tried several times and I can't seem to find a really good way to do it.  I've been using Gorilla Glue and I can't seem to get a really clean and crisp seam that will actually stay together tightly.  So ...

What type of glue do you use and do you have a special technique?

If you are talking about G4's I actually stick a rubber band around it (my first and only custom so far). I used some E6000. Some people use super glue. I am not very familiar with Gorilla Glue.

I use super glue. Depending on what generation, will change how I keep it in place though. What gen are you working with?

I just use Tacky glue, tho honestly I've been thinking of trying something different for neckseams eventually... it holds really well, haven't had problems with that, but when I give something a neckwrap the glue softens a bit and the hair gets caught in the seam and I have to fish it out once it's dry...

the glue rehardens and it doesn't really get stuck to the hair so there's no hard bits in the mane or anything- so it's just a personal irritant that doesn't truly damage the custom.

Mostly G1 & G3s.  How do you apply it?  I've tried just squirting it on the neck seam and I have tried applying it to a QTip first and then applying.  Neither way is working out well for me.  Starting to just feel like an idiot, lol

Oh that! I buy this super glue that has a little paintbrush to apply it. I'm terrible about glueing everything to everything else including myself with super glue and this is easier for me to keep from spilling it everywhere.

I prefer super glue gel.  It doesn't run and drip, but some brands (can't remember right now) don't work as well as others.

When you say you squirt it on the neck seam... do you mean you still have the neck plugs in place? Sometimes when the plug is broken but still attached on one edge I try to keep what's left of it and glue it on the other side, but that's really difficult. It may just be easier to cut the plug off altogether and just glue the head back on, it's easier to apply the glue that way. I never glue the heads if the plugs are intact, though.
