Embarassing Paypal issue....please help!
« on: June 07, 2013, 05:12:57 PM »
I wish I didn't have to ask this.

I made a little boo-boo with my checking account. I forgot to stub something I bought. I bought something on eBay, and the Paypal payment went through and the seller got their money, but I got an email saying my bank declined it. What doesn't make sense is that the overdraw shows up on my bank statement, but Paypal says my bank declined it.   Does anyone know what's going on?

Luckily, I have about $100 worth of auctions ending that will more than cover this fee. My Paypal balance shows up as zero with no negative. They said they will try charging my account again in three business days. It will get declined again, I know that.

When I get my payment for the items I am selling, will Paypal take these? It hasn't reached negative yet, but instead of them trying to charge my bank over and over, I just want them to take my profits from selling. Will they do this, or will I have to give them a call to authorize this.

This whole thing is embarassing. This actually happened one other time before, too.   I won't get kicked off Paypal for this, will I? I really need them for selling. It gives me some extra income.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated. I am kinda desperate.

Was your payment via an e-check then? If it was it will either A. come up as declined on the seller's end when the payment has cleared. B. it goes through fine, your bank covers the purchase and you end up paying an overdraft charge from your bank (plus whatever the item costs.) This will automatically be deducted from your bank account.

It wasn't selected as an echeck. I just selected for it to come directly from my bank account, which is normally does instantly. The seller said they got it and have already shipped. Can it still show up eventually as declined on their end? That's the last thing I need to happen. D:

The overdraft shows up on my bank, but Paypal still sent me the email saying it was declined. I don't understand why.

I had this issue before. Luckily I had a friend who was an accountant tell me to go explain to the bank my mistake and ask them to waive the overdraft since I had been a good customer for so long. I went to the bank and the lady looked at me like she was my mother disappointed in me. But they did waive the fees! I then added money to my account so that the PayPal would go through the next time they tried to take it out. They had tried 3 times before I realized it. I am not sure what they will do with a PayPal balance though. Hopefully someone else knows!

I think if it eventually fails, your PP will be in the negative until money is added to it. If it cleared already on your seller's end, then I wouldn't worry about that part now. Like Fran said, go to your bank and explain what happened. They might waive the fee.

Well, I am glad it won't involve the seller getting temporarily ripped off until I can pay her back. I'll just make sure to keep my funds in my paypal account for a few days and see if they take them off.

Thank you all for your help. :)

I found this info on Paypal's site from a representative when someone asked a similar question.

Quote
If there aren't enough funds in your PayPal account balance to fund the full amount of an Instant Transfer, we’ll request the remainder from your bank account. If this request fails, we’ll charge the remaining amount to your debit card or credit card. If the attempt to charge your card fails, we’ll try to charge your bank a second time.

If our attempts to charge the remaining amount from your bank/card fails, you’ll have an amount owing to us on your PayPal account. In this instance, your PayPal account's functionality may become limited until your balance is brought to zero or above.

We'll ask you to add money to your PayPal account to bring your balance to a minimum of zero within 7 business days. Adding money (or receiving a payment) can resolve this.

You can choose from one the following options to add funds to bring your account to a positive standing:
•Add money using your credit card or debit card (instantly).
•Add money using your bank account (5 to 7 working days).
•Add money by posting us a personal cheque, postal order, or banker's draft (7 business days after we receive your payment your balance will be updated).

It looks like according to them they will give you seven days to bring your account back into good standing when their second attempt fails. So it should give you ample time if you are going to be receiving payments for ebay sales. Good Luck and I hope it all gets straightened out for you soon!

Oh Dazzle bless your heart I have always worried about something like this happening so I have a credit card that is set up to take the transfer payment in case the bank account goes in the red due to something I forgot about.  I don't know if they will take it out of your paypal funds or not but it seems like they would do that first before another bank transfer.  You could call paypal and ask them on the phone if they would take your paypal sales money instead.  Its okay. Don't be embarrassed. We all have account issues from time to time.

I am probably gonna give them a call on Monday. By then my auctions should be close to ending. And hopefully my buyers pay fast. I've had a lot of buyers lately who wait until I open a case before they pay. I seriously wanna smack those people, lol.

Yea that is just ridiculous that people are waiting that long. I won't bid if I don't have the money to pay when its over.   I usually always pay the day my auctions end.
