Yep - vinegar and then baking soda.

I use stuff called "Kids & Pets" - our cat started acting out when my dad had "temporarily moved in" to our house while building my parents new house... and it really seemed to work... I would soak the spot and then run the carpet cleaner over it with Bissel Pet Stain/Odor remover carpet cleaning solution in the tank, and the combo of those two worked for us!
