Advice on removing these marks?
« on: May 14, 2013, 05:57:30 AM »
My friend's Periwinkle has a bunch of these little reddish marks on her. So far we've tried acetone and a lot of soap and scrubbing but they haven't budged. What else could we try? Only other thing I can think of is sunfading, which might take a long time to work since we live in Scotland!

Here's some pictures. What is this stuff anyway?

Oh, and if suggesting any products, try to name ones that can be found easily in the UK please!

Yeah... as far as I can tell sunfading is probably your best bet. :( I have heard that hydrogen peroxide can aid in the process but I haven't tried it myself. I'll let someone else elaborate, if that's a viable option.

I did own a periwinkle that I was going to customize, she got killed by my boyfriend when he tried to take the head off...

However before she died I'd tried using acetone to clean her up (no working) and gave her a bath in Cilit Bang citrus floor cleaner (my cat did a wee on her so she smelt icky). It didn't make any difference to the cat pee hair but she did look sparkly clean and had no symbol or eye rubs.

Having said that it didn't get rid of the pink highlighter stain on my bait starshine that will have to be repainted.

Aside from rubbing hard with acetone and sunfading, the only thing I can think of (which is pretty extreme and will probably make fellow members cringe) is very carefully filing down on the spots. I had a g4 with gunk that was actually just under the plastic and really nasty looking, I tried everything else but in the end took a nail file to her and got it out. This is only for stuff just at the surface though.

you may have tried a magic eraser and I just didnt read it. But when nothing else works Magic erasers work than I move to sunfading.

I would say sunfading. It will work surprisingly well, even when you dont have too much sun.  :) Just check this thread: http://mlparena.com/mlp/index.php/topic,327325.msg711409.html#msg711409 They're in UK, and the transfomation was amazing!

They could possibly be rust spots. Rust spots are a devil to clean out of anything unfortunately. :(

I agree magic eraser is your first bet - you will get them in several places from Poundland to Lakeland Limited and even Asda and Sainsburys.

If that doesnt work, sun fading will. I agree we havent really seen much sunlight here since about 2008 :P but as we are coming into summer [supposedly] if you get a sunny enough window sun fading will work. Its just that it takes longer here than Devon or California!

Those marks can be made by a lot of things.  I have witnessed it from ponies being in a bag or purse, being near fabric, being in a toybin with other toys or crayons or markers, being with hair accessories...

Yes, about the only way to get it out is sunfading.  :)  Thankfully they are small areas to treat!

Thanks for the suggestions! These magic erasers sure sound great! I'll definitely need to pick some up at some point, especially since they seem pretty cheap and easy to get a hold of.

I think we'll give that a go first and see if we can get a more instant result before trying sunfading. Although, come to think of it, Aberdeen is meant to be the sunniest city in Scotland, so I guess we don't have it too bad!
