Reroot question: How long does it take for glue to dry?
« on: May 15, 2013, 10:50:48 AM »
I finished my first ever re-root last night, and I was wondering if anyone had an estimate on how long it should take for the glue I used to secure the hair to dry. And is there anything I can do to speed up the glue-drying that won't damage the doll?

What glue did you use? Fabritac us usually dry in about an hour, though you always want to wait a full day for things to set, just to be careful.

I'm not sure of the exact name of it; I know the brand is Aleen's (I think I spelled it right), but not sure what it's actually called and too lazy to go get it. XD I think it's just called Fabric Glue.

I'm just curious, because it's been about 16 hours since I finished and put the glue in, and it's still pretty tacky. I'd like to reunite Howleen's head with her body, but I'm afraid to because I don't want the glue to mess up the mobility of her head.

I just wanna say, if you happen to be using a glue that is solvent based (I think that's the one) give it at least 24 hours. I rerooted a G4 scootaloo, glued the hair, gave it a few hours and popped the head back on. Later on in the evening I was taking some photos of her and noticed turning her head felt a bit gummy, figured it was the glue and it would sort itself out.

Little later on, the head was REALLY soft and squishy, as though it had been soaking in boiling water too long, and easily popped on and off the head. Eventually it went back to normal but it took weeks! D:
