Nope, that's hamsters.  It's a common misconception that just because hamsters are weird like that that ALL rodents will do the same thing.  I have raised mice, gerbils and rats and handled them all from day 1 with no problems.

I know the sexes and I'm starting to memorize differences in the tail markings and at the edges of the white on their bellies.  Not yet.  I need to sit down and have a really good, long name-thinking session.  I have a feeling one of the boys might get stuck with Wilfred, since I've been watching the hardcore on Netflix lately, lol. 

They grow VERY fast!  They went from little pinkies to looking like miniature versions of adult ratties in just 3 weeks.   Less than 2 weeks they will be weaned and ready to be separated by sexes.

aww they are very cute I do not have a rat myself , however I knew one in my bio class and we were buds.

I guess this is pretty much it.  They are 3 weeks old and fully complete developmentally.  Now all they have to do is finish growing.  They are climbing, playing, eating and drinking, etc.  They will still nurse for another couple weeks, for nutritional value, and then I will be putting each sex in their respective cages because they will also become sexually mature then.  It was so much fun watching them grow, and certainly didn't take long!

For sure!  I have been taking them out one at a time and spending socializing time with them.  They're really friendly and they like to sit on my arm while I'm on the computer and just relax, or cuddle up in my hand and wash their faces, lol.
