Torn about selling my MIB G3s....

Kinda seeking some advice from whoever would like to throw their two cents in.....

I am not a MIB G3 collector. I have deboxed most of mine. However, when they were in stores, I bought duplicates of some of them to keep MIB.

These duplicates have been sitting in my storage shed for about.....oh maybe five years now. They are in a safe environment and most are still in great condition. I have absolutely NO room to bring them inside, and leaving them out there in the dark is really bugging me. I feel like they are just rotting.

I looked at prices on eBay. For example, I have G3 Butterscotch in box.....both the original and the berry picking version. The original sold for over $20 in her box on an eBay auction recently so I may be able to match that.

It's just that I almost wonder if I should keep them in case the value goes up. I always tell people I don't collect for value, I collect for fun. But since I have so many of them, I almost wonder if I should hold on to them. I don't wanna regret selling them. Seller's remorse is terrible. But at the same time, if I DON'T sell them, they will just sit in storage for several more years until I move out and get my own place.

I am torn. I hate that they are sitting out there and not being enjoyed by someone.

I think I could sell them and use the funds to get more G1s I have been really wanting or expand some other collections instead of holding on to duplicates just because they are unopened. Then I feel like I will regret it. I really don't think I'm even that attached to them. I'm worried about selling them when the value isn't that great. I was going through them today and forgot I even had many of them, so I obviously wasn't missing them.  I have two box fulls of MIB G3s......actually I know there are more than that. I just haven't found them. They are deep in a pile of boxes. Some I think may sell for a bit.....I have the Port-O-Bella and Lickety Split set unopened and I think they are more sough after, right? I know they are out there in a box I cannot get to.

Any advice or recommendations? I am SO torn!

Well that is a hard one and really is all up to you of course. Well these are a few things that I see. You have all of them already loose. So you really do not need two of the same pony. But they are also still in there boxes and sometimes are worth more then loose ponies.

You can always hold onto them till a later date to make sure your totally ok with it. You do not want to sell and then wish that you did not.

Very true what you said, avene. But if I keep the lil' ponies, I wish I could bring them in my house. The storage shed smells like gas now that our lawnmower is stored in there. I don't want gassy ponies. D:

Its tough to judge on value. Most G3s don't sell well - you are as likely to get a super high price as you are for them to bottom out unfortunately. Even the harder to find and rarer releases dont go as high as you would expect a lot of the time. There are some exceptions to the rule thankfully and a few harder to find releases that many G3 collectors are still on the look out for. Personally I would not hold on to them in the hope or expectation for a sudden soar in price. Yes, hopefully they will go back up again from where they are now but unfortunately there are so many of them in the hands of collectors that I dont think they are ever going to be super valuable.

If you could fund ponies you want more by selling some of them, then personally I would say go for that. G1s loose will probably hold more value than G3s MIB over time - but that is speculation. And if you will enjoy the ponies you are going to buy more in your collection than the ones you have as MIB duplicates then I think thats the best plan.

How about picking out a couple of sets which you are not particularly attached to - a couple of the more common sets - and sell them? If you manage that easily and are not upset by them being sold, then perhaps you could move on to other sets?

This is what I thought about doing myself, actually.

So after this conclusion, I will likely sell of ones that I am not super attached to, and keeping ones that have more value to me.

Will likely post them within the next two weeks.

Oh totally did not think about that! They being plastic I think they would get that smell into the plastic. Just like sig smoke..........Gosh that is a hard one!

Hey babe!!  If they've been sitting packed away for years, are you really going to miss them?  I say sell them and save the money for a rainy day:).  But you might want to keep in mind that I'm selling a bunch of ponies right now

If I could magically sell a bunch overnight, I'd totally buy one of your Starry Wings, michelle!   But I have to wait until I get back from my trip to sell. All my cash is going to my trip or else I'd put them all on eBay tonight.

Oh girl, fund your trip and put them on eBay! Did you see that I have a Starry Wings for $25???  *Shameless plug*.   You can sell only what you feel comfortable with.  I'm not selling all my ponies, just what I can part with.  Plus, if you regret it, you can always buy them back later on:)
